OK, so first, we compile an entire army of superhuman ninjas, then steal Tom Brady, TJ Housh, TO, and LT, completely dominate everyone on offense, and go 16-0...
But since that's impossible...
I have heard we will have anywhere from $14-40 million in cap space, due to "trick" clauses in contracts and unachieved bonuses.
1.We need to get a Wide Receiver.
Two options are realistic here, considering right now we have a solid slot guy in Bobby Wade, and an up and coming #2 guy in Sidney Rice. Options such as Bernard Berrian and Patrick Crayton on the Free Agent market are not terrible, but they don't add the definite #1 caliber WR that we need to improve this offense. Another option that has been discussed, but I believe is much less realistic, is trading for Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald. As much as I'd love this, I realize that would take at least a first rounder and a decent player, which doesn't put the trade in a spot where Childress will pull the trigger.
2.We need a pass rusher.
We have several options here, especially if we have the maximum possible money available. We could go and grab Jared Allen off the Free Agent market, basically setting our defensive line (More on that coming) with Udeze, Edwards, and Allen. The much more realistic scenario is standing pat, hoping that Robison and Edwards mature and Udeze improves like he did this year.
3.We need another run-stuffing DT.
Pat Williams is 35, and he will not be as effective in the coming years, which will force us to find someone else, and we don't have anyone to replace him now, so I would go out and draft a Frank Okam or Kentwan Balmer in the first round or DeMario Pressley or Marcus Harrison in round two. There aren't that many good free agent DTs out there this year, so I would look to the draft for it.
4.We need another CB
Draft one this year, as the class is deep through the first two rounds, guys like Antoine Cason and Aqib Talib, or Mike Jenkins if he falls. If they stand pat, they should be fine, but after being 32nd against the pass this year, we need to improve the pass defense somehow...
5.WE NEED A QUARTERBACK!
Yes, Tarvaris Jackson is 8-4 as a starter, I know that, but I do not think he should be benched. I would be more in favor of signing Steve McNair, not Donovan McNabb, while keeping Bollinger, because McNair is the same type of QB as T-Jack. (At least he used to be...) He came out of a small school and knows what Jackson is experiencing right now. Steve would not be the starter though, he would basically be the backup, and the playing QBs coach, but a more suitable mentor for Tarvaris than Brad Johnson or Kelly Holcomb.
If we can accomplish these things, we should be a 10-6, 11-5 playoff contender come next season.
