2008 NFL Mock Draft

Since i am not sure of the order yet here is my first try at this year draft. I will update after the Super Bowl.

  1. MiamiGlenn Dorsey, DT, LSU
I would like to see Miami trade this pick for more, since I think they need help on QB, and well every other position. Their defense just got old and Glenn Dorsey could be a good pick, thats why the obvious choice is Dorsey, look at Mario Williams.

  2. St. LouisChris Long, DE, Virginia
Since they don’t need a running back I would think that they take Chris Long because of talent or Jake Long offensive tackle from Michigan because of needs in the offensive line.

  3. Oakland* – Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas**
The Raiders could be getting the most talented player in this class, and with him and JaMarcus Russell this team could be turning around.

  4. Kansas City* – Brian Brohm, QB, Louisville
The Chiefs need help on QB and OT, on top of other positions like WR. But if they don’t trade this pick, which they should. Then I will have to say that is either Brian Brohm or Matt Ryan at QB, or Michael Oher at offensive tackle.

  5. Atlanta* – Matt Ryan, QB, Boston College
The Falcons are in need of a quarterback, and who better than what I think is the best prospect this year at QB.

  6. New York Jets – James Laurinaitis, LB, Ohio State**
The Jets need defense, and Laurinaitis could be a great addition to this team, look at Green Bay now with a very similar player in AJ Hawk.

  7. New England (from San Francisco) - Jake Long, OT, Michigan
What exactly does New England needs? I think they would just try to get younger on the offensive line or go with Antoine Cason from Arizona at CB.

  8. BaltimoreAntoine Cason, CB, Arizona
I would think that the Ravens try to get younger on defense but with Brian Billick gone and the recent problems at QB, I think they may look into Andre Woodson from Kentucky.

  9. CincinnatiSedrick Ellis, DT, USC
The Bengal’s need to get better on defense, and Sedrick Ellis would be a great player to start building a defensive line.

  10. New OrleansCalais Campbell, DE, Miami**
The Saints still have work to do on defense and for me their other option would be Malcolm Jenkins the corner from Ohio State.

  11. Buffalo* – Michael Oher, OT, Ole Miss**
The other players that may be consider here are Ryan Clady, OT from Boise State or Sam Baker, OT from USC.

  12. Denver* – Sam Baker, OT, USC
There are needs for the Broncos on both defense and offense but they also need to keep Jay Cutler safe, and with either Ryan Clady or Sam Baker their protection will increase.

  13. CarolinaDan Connor, LB, Penn State
Panthers need to put their defense back like past years. Another option would be Keith Rivers, linebacker at USC.

  14. ChicagoAndre Woodson, QB, Kentucky
The Bears have to take care of their biggest problem that has hunted them for years now.

  15. DetroitRyan Clady, OT, Boise State
Another team in need of offensive tackle. Gosder Cherilus form Boston College could jump in here if Ryan Clady is already taken.

  16. ArizonaGosder Cherilus, OT, Boston College
The biggest problems with the Cardinals in the past years have been the offensive line, now between last year and this year this could become a past issue.

  17. MinnesotaKeith Rivers, LB, USC
The defense on the Vikings could be getting better, but their true need is at QB, which they will wait unless one of the top three (Ryan, Brohm, and Woodson) still available.

  18. HoustonMalcolm Jenkins, DB, Ohio State
With the addition of a defensive back the Texans would be building a great defense for the upcoming years. There other option if Jenkins is already drafted is Reggie Smith from Oklahoma if he decides to come out for the draft.

  19. PhiladelphiaMalcolm Kelly, WR, Oklahoma**
The Eagles need receivers and the other two great options are Early Doucet from LSU and DeSean Jackson form Cal.

  20. Tampa BayDeSean Jackson, WR, Cal
The need for a play maker in Tampa is bigger than the need for a traditional wide receiver that’s why I think Jackson is a better fit than Doucet from LSU.

  21. WashingtonKenny Phillips, S, Miami
It would be great if Phillips could become the next Sean Taylor in Washington.

  22. Dallas (from Cleveland) – Early Doucet, WR, LSU
There is also need in the offensive line for the Cowboys, but the duo of Doucet and TO could be a great exclamation point for an already very good team.

  23. SeattleJonathan Stewart, RB, Oregon
The running back position in Seattle is not what it used to be two year ago. So it would be good to start early with Stewart.

  24. PittsburghJeff Otah, OT, Pittsburgh
If the bigger need at offensive tackle is not the number one choice then Tyson Jackson defensive end from LSU could be a great addition to this defense, assuming he doesn’t decide to stay for his senior season.

  25. TennesseeMario Manningham, WR, Michigan**
Manningham would come in and have an immediate impact since Vince Young needs as much help as he can get on the receiving side of the ball. Another player that may be a choice for the Titans is Limas Sweed from Texas.

  26. New York GiantsMike Jenkins, DB, USF
They need defensive backs that can complement that front seven. And is either Jenkins or Brandon Flowers from Virginia Tech, assuming he enters the draft.

  27. San DiegoTyson Jackson, DE, LSU**
The Chargers need a DE and it is between Tyson Jackson and Derrick Harvey defensive end from Florida.

  28. Jacksonville - Derrick Harvey, DE, Florida**
The Jaguars love Florida players and Harvey by adding some size could get to be a great player in the future.

  29. Green BaySteve Slaton, RB, West Virginia**
This is the only position in Green Bay that may have questions. So Slaton could be the answer.

  30. DallasBrandon Flowers, DB, Virginia Tech **
Defensive back that will help the Cowboys. With Newman helping in the learning process Flower could be the next Dallas defensive back star. Aqib Talib from Kansas may be a great choice as well.

  31. San Francisco (from Indianapolis) – James Hardy, WR, Indiana**
Alex Smith needs more players around him, and hopefully that will make a difference in his game.

  32. New England – no pick

*Order still to be determined by NFL

**Junior players who may decide to go into the draft.

Hey. I have a group for mock drafts. Would you like to blog on it?

I wouldn't mind sounds great, whats the name of the group?

Report Offensive Comment

i would love to see mcfadden rolling up the yards in a raiders uniform. they have plenty of decent running backs to trade for other players.

For a guy with a pic of OJ Simpson, you have no idea what the Bills need.

Report Offensive Comment

LIFER, The Bills need many things: WR since their #2 receiver is no better than their fourth, better DBs since that possition for them is not strong, maybe a TE (which is never drafted in the first round). But since you ask and i dont know much about the Bills but i will tell you that since they have a young RB and QB it would be great to build around them with young linemen, plus here is last years draft.. see any OT?
Rd. 1 - 12th
Marshawn Lynch
Rd. 2 - 34
Paul Posluszny
Rd. 3 - 92
Trent Edwards
Rd. 4 - 111
Dwayne Wright
Rd. 6 - 184
John Wendling
Rd. 7 - 222
Derek Schouman
Rd. 7 - 239
CJ Ah You

The Raiders are pretty good running the ball. They need o-line so that Russell doesn't die.
The Chiefs need o-line more than QB.
The Jets need help on the defensive line. Linebacker can wait.
The Patriots need defense. Most likely a linebacker. Hopefully Laurinaitis. Matt Light is 29, Dan Koppen is 28, Logan Mankins is 25, Stephen Neal is 31, Nick Kazcur is 28. They aren't that old.
Buffalo needs a #2 receiver. (Yes, I looked at your comment)
Vikings need cornerbacks.
Texans need a runningback, but I don't think there's one worth taking where they are so you're probably right.
Jacksonville could use some receivers.
Ryan Grant's pretty damn good. They need to get their cornerback position younger. Woodson and Harris are both on the wrong side of 30.

Your other picks are good. One question though. Why do you have OJ as your picture?

Report Offensive Comment

I'm not sure that Dallas needs another DB, or that they *think* they need another one. They're pretty happy with the Newman-Henry tandem and Phillips is pretty high on Reeves as the nickel CB.

I'm thinking they might get a RB if they let Jones go, or someone at WR (then again they might be too high on {crack} the younger WR's they have now like Hurd and Crayton.

Report Offensive Comment

BTW. You have a good call on the WR for the Eagles. They need a posession receiver to push Brown and Avant for playing time.

If the Eagles had a true weapon at WR like they did with *cough* Owens *cough* then they'd be dangerous once more.

They also need to get an OT to push Justice and the old geezers for playing time.

Nice job I think teams will make a mistake by drafting Matt Ryan so high. I like where you have Brohm and Woodson and for the most part great blog Thumbs up !

D-Wade, I agree with you that the Chiefs need O-Line but i am not sure they wouldn't trade this pick before picking an o-lineman. The Vicking do need better secondary so that was my mistake, and Jacksonville could get better recievers but i am not sure whats left by pick 28th is better than a second round pick.
About Green Bay, well i am not sold by Grant yet but their secondary is indeed in need of younger talent. In other words in my update (after the super bowl) i will make some corrections.

The name is just because i have always been intrigued by OJ, he seem to me like a misterious caracter, something great for this site. I do like your name since i lived in Miami for a while and liked D-Wade.

Oso, good point about Dallas, but i think they would try to go for Felix Jones from Arkansa in the second round (if he still there) since Jerry Jones is from there.

Report Offensive Comment

The Bills have Jason Peters (he made a PB, in case you didn't notice) and signed Langston Walker to a $25M contract last year for their Tackles. Maybe they should get a bit of depth, but that shouldn't come until at least the 3rd or 4th round at best.

D-Wade's the man, but I changed my name.

It wouldn't hurt. Reeves is still an unknown quantity. But I think Jerry's not that much of a hog homer.

I am looking forward to further blogs in the group Juice.

It might be interesting to do a team by team offseason needs blog. I'm not sure that I know enough about each team...but that's why I made the Draftniks originally...to get a nationwide perspective.
