Turner Motorsports in seperate announcements Tuesday advised employees about the possability of downsizing for next season, and the release of Reed Sorenson. This comes after Dollar General stated it will not return as a sponsor for the organization in 2012.

Brian Vickers was announced as Sorenson's replacement for the next two races "as a proven winner in at NASCAR's highest level in addition to being a driver at Turner Motorsports over the last four seasons."

Sorenson is currently 3rd in points, 27 behind Ricky Stenhouse and has one win and 18 top-10s.

That is a summery of an article over on SI.com. Nova had already reported about Dollar General and the employee notification, but the Sorenson release is just a big surprise. Here is a driver contending for the championship and you drop him for a Cup driver. But then again as a former NW Champion I am totally sure Vickers being in the series will result in sellouts in Kansas and Charlotte.

Also from Jayski :) .. Dollar General is expected to be a limited sponsor on one of JGR / Gibbs Cup cars and as a primary sponsor in the Nationwide Series. ...

So is Gibbs trying to line up Sponsorship for CUP, in case FedEx or Home Depot leaves, ... cause next year UPS is only 4-8 races at Roush maybe on the #99 or #6 . .

then the rumor, before he re-signed at Roush, that Home Depot 'Wanted', Edwards to go up against JJ / Lowe's... so not next year, but in 2013 the #99 Edwards / Roush / Home Depot car?

October 5, 2011  09:32 AM ET

no rumor of Vickers driving for any other team in CUP next year ...

so, Brian Vickers could be in Nationwide full time next year ...

No Word on Red Bull team ... other then they did employee notification ...

Sorensen will join the ranks of Cup Start and Parkers.

Guys it's the sign of the times, there just isn't the money anymore, and these sponsers are getting shallow pockets,,as is with ALL of US.

Good Morning to all.

I can see why Home Depot would want a real driver and not little Joey. They had problems with Smoke's behavior but at least he won some races and had some toughness to him. Little Joey is just a wet behind the ears loser. No really what the corporate image Home Depot wanted to project.

Pushed "submit" too soon. I'd also rather see Home Depot sponsor a Ford before a Toyota.

Isn't DG a part time sponsor of Kyle Busch in the Truck series?

Bounce the candy sponsor over, appropriately enough, to the kid, and Kyle adds DG to the conglomeration of sponsors already rotating on his car.

October 5, 2011  10:10 AM ET

Perhaps the candy sponsor doesn't want to sponsor the kid.

Yes, DG is a part time of KBR Truck .. 8 races per Jayski ...

the conglomeration of sponsor ... is Just the Mars Corp. ... who make M&M's, Snickers, Combos,
Pedigree Dog Food, Double Mint Gum, only non Mars sponsor Interstate Batteries ...

think about that next time you have Pretzel M&M's or Pedigree M&M's ? ... ;-o ..

And Mars Corp. is private Mars Family owned ... No Stock ...

Love M&M's, love pretzels with mustard or peanut butter. I can't imagine combining M&M's and pretzels.

October 5, 2011  11:39 AM ET

be interesting on Friday, should be the press conf. with Mickey / Bowyer at Kansas, Clint home State .... to see how many races, 5 hour energy is the sponsor for next year ...

remember Aaron's only does 18 races, BUD does 22, Fastenal is doing 17, etc. ...

I hate watching my favorite sport start to fall to the wayside all because of greed. Hey wait isn't that what got our country into the predicament in the first place.

agree. Joey's persona implicates him as someone who doesn't know which end of a hammer to use.

it like a chocolate cover Pretzel ... which you can buy ... just in a M&M Shell ...

I rather have chocolate cover Pretzels over M&M's pretzel .. first choice for M&M is peanuts ones ....
