We're almost halfway through the NBA season and at this point speculation starts getting hotter and heavier about potential MVP candidates.  Here are mine:

1) Kobe Bryant, Los Angeles Lakers (tied)- It seems like everyone's forgotten about all the summer trade talks.  He's shown tremendous leadership on a surprisingly good, mostly young team.

1) Chris Paul, New Orleans Hornets (tied)- Putting up sick numbers for a rag tag bunch that would probably be lottery bound if not for him.  A leader already in just his third year.

2) Brandon Roy, Portland Trail Blazers - Quiet leader of league's most surprising team.  He's just below my top two because you get the feeling that it's more of a group effort & Nate McMillan's coaching than just Roy's presence.  His contributions are still a major factor in their success though.

3) Dwight Howard, Orlando Magic - Their slumping a bit now after strong start but almost all good teams have their peaks & valleys.  He's becoming a Shaq-like force much sooner than people suspected he would.  Sets a great example with his work ethic.

4) Caron Butler, Washington Wizards - Mad props to this All-Star Game worthy player who's keeping his team competitive even without their biggest star.

5) Carlos Boozer, Utah Jazz - Team is struggling but not because of him.  He's putting up "Mailman" type numbers and deserves more credit than he gets.

6) LeBron James, Cleveland Cavaliers - Seems to want to "turn it on" only when necessary.  That's why his team's playing .500 ball right now.  If he gets it in his head to try to win every game, he'll move up this list real quick.

7) Yao Ming, Houston Rockets - Time to trade McGrady & start building around Yao.  Unfortunately, he still has a problem with being too passive which is why his team is struggling & why he's at the bottom of this list.

Now I know the responses will be coming about who's missing, but all other plus .500 teams have been the result of more than just one stand-out player.  These are my considerations for MVP.  And this is how I see it.  You got a problem with that?  Let me hear it, but leave that weak stuff at home!

See your point about Kobe. The Lakers are 21-11 for a reason, and he is the reason.

I don't care how much of a collective effort the Suns' success has been, Nash at least has to be in the top seven. Brandon Roy is a little high, in my opinion.

I say Chris Paul or Dwight Howard--Howard has already set a few records with 30point + 15 rebound games, hes blowing everyone away. But Paul is putting up some sick numbers too....

#15 G.O.A.T, good point about Nash. It's so easy to overlook him but the Suns just don't win without him. You could make a strong case for putting him in at 2 and dropping everyone else down a notch. Tell you what though, the Suns also don't win without Shawn Marion. Losing Nash would be a bigger blow but they owe a lot to Matrix for their success. Everytime I vote on NBA.com, I pick Shawn for one of my starting forwards. He definitely deserves it.
