Those words are etched in the soul of his players and fans forever. Al Davis was a football giant who's legacy will live on until the end of time. He may not have been loved or liked by some , but for those that knew him he had no equal. When I look back at his Raiders team the Lamonica, Stabler, and Plunkett lead teams they we're a joy to watch on any given Sunday. The Art Shell, Gene Upshaw, Jack Tatum ,Howie Long, and the list of Raider greats goes on and on. My battle cry is just win this year for Big Al baby. For all he has done for the sport , and his players who loved him dearly I say dedicate the rest of the season to him. He was the first to draft from mostly black colleges and it paid off for the Raiders . Then he hired the NFL's first black coach and one of the top front office positions he filled with a woman . Not only was he a great person but in my book he was the GOAT owners .

No doubt the man was special.
also
No doubt he listened way too much around 1985 to all the sports people that were calling him a genius. From that point on he became an egotistical tyrant that ruled the camp with terror if you ever said anything remotely critical about the Raiders.
Some might say that is the ultimate homer, that would be fair, but that type of rule has dire consquences, those consquences are apparent in the Raiders record in the last 26 years.
They once went 9 out of 10 years winning the division (with John as the coach), won 3 superbowls out of 7, (XI, XV & XVIII).
The numbers are staggering in that era pre 1985.
after
7 playoff's in 26 years and only 3 AFC Championship games (they lost one to Buffalo 41-3).
If you really followed them over these years and I have you'd know the team has never been the same after those 2 good years in Los Angeles.
