Im all about being a rabid fan. Showing some love for one's conference. But it has gotten to the point on this site that people don't even read arguments. THAT IS PATHETIC. I apologize to Kobe, CCC, Anthony and a few others who actually argue and read.

I've read fanmail this week where a guy was losing fairly late into a TD where the other person had already been caught plagarizing his argument. HOW????

Ive seen numerous ones where the guy who forfeits turns gets lots of votes????? How if a TD is about an argument.

But perhaps my favorite are people like Cassidy.... no offense she makes me laugh and normally ok. But really she votes for anything steelers. Heck in a recent throwdown about best NFL team in a year. She commented cant vote because it wasnt one of her 70s steelers teams. HUH?  Id understand if she voted for someone who said 78 or 79 steelers but cant vote.  WHAT CANT ONE READ ANYMORE.  Cant read arguments and decide... only if they support your team or choice.  Again this is from people who in their throwdowns talk about 'arguments.' Well read them then.

I dont mind losing a TD and have against some good opponents and won some against good arguments too. But to tie a guy who got 9 or 10 votes before ever having an argument. Literally he picked his selection for best NFL team (he made the td) then forfeited a turn. and had 9 to 10 votes. REALLY? His WHOLE argument is 10 lines.   Its starting to get borderline pathetic around here. Sorry if sounds harsh or whining but its just annoying and I need to vent. I enjoy fannation... even the jabs and flying insults.  BUT does anyone actually read the arguments anymore.

Still a good site it would just be an improvement to see more voting on the arguments and not knee jerk fansupport or if it would have been your choice. who cares pick the person who had best argument.

"I've read fanmail this week where a guy was losing fairly late into a TD where the other person had already been caught plagarizing his argument. HOW????"

I acctually fixed that problem for SS. I got him about 20 votes in an hour. I have that field under reps.

I agree with you Sooner. I have only been on here a few months so I am not sue how it used to be, but it is ridiculous how narrow minded these fanatics can be. I just had a brief thread where another member was commenting on Brandon Jacobs -vs- Marion Barber and he was arguing for Jacobs. I told him that he should start a TD because he had some very valid points. He said that he was not even going to bother with a TD because there are so many Cowbay fans out there and they would just vote for the fan favorite. Im not hating on the cowboys, just making a point. It is just a shame because it could have been such a great TD - he had some great arguements for Jacobs. I don't blame him though it would have been a suicide TD even if the other person just wrote Marion Barber and forfeited the rest of his turns.

Maybe there is a better way? What if you had to click on a ( Read ) icon for each arguement before it let you cast a vote? If there are 6 arguements than you have to click 6 times before you can vote. It would certinly cut down on the total number of votes cast, but it would increase the integrity of the TD.

whodey...
I actually like the idea of not being able to see the arguments until click argument button and then read within the argument itself.
With the vote not being triggered until all read buttons clicked.

I vote alot of cowboy tds for the boys but have voted against and even argued against them once in a td.

Im just baffled how a forfeit and naming a team gets you 10 votes . Amazing. You are right -- IF say anything against SEC hard to win although there has been some backlash to the pro-SEC thing lately. Now the Big10 fans vote for anything big 10. Sad

Totally agree. There are a bunch of idiots on this site now. Not sure how some people get votes.

Cass just made a similar comment on a TD I'm in with Goodell about top 3 most influential people in NFL history. She said, No Rooney no vote to either.

thanks for the compliment sooner. i see the bad in fannation, but theres ppl like us that like it for the tds being fair.

January 11, 2008  10:03 AM ET

thx sooner in wa! i do read and i do argue. but what can we do?

January 12, 2008  04:07 PM ET

it is one of the great debates here

-Vote for who you think is right
or
-Vote for the better argument

I actually try to read a TD without any bias, I read and whomever sways me I go with. If it is too close to call then I go with what I think.

I think some people just like to vote on who they agree with not so much what they have to say about it. But keep up the hope, as long as the TD is something that isn't obvious the better argument usually wins out.

let the revolution continue

Hey, when I vote (not often, I don't do spam), I take both position and argument into consideration. If someone was to say Wilt Russell-Jabbar was the best center (any of them), I'd read to see which argument was better, but if it was Shaq in that argument, I'd ignore it.

January 12, 2008  09:24 PM ET

How many of you click accept on anything on line without reading the whole thing?

How many of you read the ENTIRE terms and conditions on this VERY site?

Thought so.

the only was to really handle this is to worry about the arguement itself.

I've LOST Td's and got mail back where I CONVINCED my oppenent, more so that fannation.

Now I do like to win- and win I often do- what irritates me are cases where you list where the opposong argument STINKS or is nonexsistant

I am guilty of reading TOO far into the arguments, if anything... It often feels as though we are merely Sisyphus, pushing the rock of competent & logical argument up the hill of FanNation only to have it roll back on us with the weight of ignorance...

I love to read the throwdowns, I love to argue. I vote entirely based on the argument put forth, and will often find myself voting against my personal beliefs simply because that side of the argument was debated so poorly. I like the idea of having to click a read button to an extent, but at the same time I think we can often find ourselves reading too far into win-loss records here...

If you are going to throwdown, do it for the sheer fun of it all. Do it because you love to argue sports; if you are debating merely to pile up wins, then this site is certainly not for you...

I feel I can argue as competently as anyone, but I also understand that I will often play the devil's advocate -- and that is bound to lose some votes... I feel your pain, Sooner, but don't get too discouraged...

The argument was about best NFL team of all-time 62 packers or 85 Bears. I said neither was the best because neither was the best team of all time which actually is the 78-79 Steelers. If you got a problem with that you need to buy some stock in Kleenex.
