Seriously, folks... It's time to pick a new obsession. I don't mind that some folks hate on our teams. When you win consistently, I expect jealous rage. But, when people like that French guy/girl/whatever make claims that my city is racist, you're making it personal. I'm guessing you've never been here, much like how Barry Bonds claimed Boston was racist based on what his dad told him. Is there racism? I'm sure there is. There's racism in every city. But as a whole, we're one of the most diverse big cities in the country. Yeah, in the 60s there were some folks in "white" neighborhoods that didn't take too kindly to minorities, and there was some tension... Meanwhile, cities in the south were burning churches and crosses. Somehow, these places get a free pass while people continually bring up racism in Boston. Yawkey, the old owner of the Sox, was a racist. That doesn't mean the city itself was. During those times, we embraced Bill Russell, Robert Parrish, Reggie Lewis, Oil Can Boyd, Mo Vaughn, Troy Brown, Ben Coates, Curtis Martin, Andre Tippett, etc. etc. etc. The Bruins had the first black player in the NHL. Yawkey's idea that the fans didn't want to see black players was nonsense. We wanted to see winners. We didn't care what color they were, if they could help the team, we'd be all for it. So get a grip, folks. Racism is still alive and well, in all cities, but to use Boston as an example is just nonsensical. We're not the ones adorning our state house with a confederate flag. ;)
