College Hoops Roundup

Sam Young had 28 in the win over Seton Hall.

On a wild Saturday in college basketball, Pitt did its job by holding off Seton Hall, 84-70. This was a very sloppy game, but Pitt clearly showed they were the better club with great play by DeJuan Blair and Sam Young. Blair racked up another double-double and Young lit up the scoreboard with 28 points. The win set the stage for a showdown with #8 Georgetown, who won in dramatic fashion just as the Pitt game went final. UConn led the Hoyas with as little as 2:27 to play, but Georgetown stormed back and got a clutch play in the final minutes by their best player. However, the details may surprise you. In a tie game, G-Town inbounded the ball. The Huskies completley ignored 7-foot-2 center Roy Hibbert since he was standing outside the 3-point line. The Hoyas immediately fed Hibbert the ball and he knocked down his 2nd career 3 to win the game. Pitt had better guard Hibbert on the perimeter as well on Monday.
#13 Texas and #12 (previously undefeated) Vanderbilt also lost today, so Pitt should slide up in the rankings. Vandy went down to a Kentucky team that has fallen from the preseason rankings to a losing record. #5 UCLA defeated #4 Washington State in a huge matchup out west which was vastly overlooked by the media.
Penn State lost a close one to Minnesota at the Bryce Jordan Center today, 76-73. PSU was up by 13 in the 2nd half and missed 4 foul shots in the final minute (2 each for Geary Claxton and freshman Talor Battle), along with a missed 3 at the buzzer by Battle.
