By all indicators, the National Football League seems to be toying with the idea of adding a 17th game to their schedule. But, the 17th to be played outside of the country. Does this mean all 32 teams playing in 16 different countries on a specific weekend? To the powers that be in the NFL, what are you thinking?
While I think its time to make some changes in NFL team schedules, the 17th game abroad format currently being looked at should not be the way. It seems to me the prevailing sentiment would be to dump some pre-season games. So, dump two of the pre-season games in favor of an 18 game schedule. In addition, lose the bye week. Why does a team that plays once a week need an extra week off? Finally, reduce the time between the AFC and NFC championship games and Super Bowl to one week. How much of the hype and useless information do we really need for two weeks? The season is just too darn long in its current format.
National Football League organizers, please do something with the schedule. But, don't add the "17th game abroad." This just seems like one of the worst ideas in the long sad history of bad ideas.
