With this, my second post in DP&S, I have decided to begin something I've had in mind: introducing an Artist Spotlight type post. Instead of going with seven songs from seven artists in one post, I will dedicate one post towards one artist, revealing seven of their songs I enjoy the most. This week, I'm going to focus on the artist that lead off my debut DP&S post, Chiddy Bang.
Breakfast - Air Swell (Mixtape)
For those of you who didn't check out the first Hip Hop Anonymous, this is my personal favorite by Chiddy Bang. Featuring Kate Moss, this song is something fairly unique, and I feel like it is enjoyable for those who aren't fond of what is considered popular current rap.
Opposite of Adults - The Preview (EP) / The Swelly Express (Mixtape)
A song that has been gaining immense popularity in recent months and that has brought Chiddy Bang most of their popularity, Opposite of Adults samples Kids my MGMT, a popular song in its own right. Now appearing on Pandora Internet Radio and having a music video with 15.5 million views, Chiddy Bang is becoming a duo that is more and more known. And personally, I feel like they deserve it.
Mind Your Manners - Breakfast (Album)
Mind Your Manners debuted on June 28th as Chiddy Bang's first single from their upcoming album Breakfast. This song impresses me, and it's one I really enjoy listening to. It makes me even more excited for their album, which has a relase date of November 11th.
Truth - The Preview (EP) / The Swelly Express (Mixtape)
Truth is another song that I feel separates Chiddy Bang from the rest of what people typically think of when they think rap. It's a fun, up-tempo type of song, and features a hook that promises that better things are coming. So far, it has been very true - and with an album coming up, I excpet better things to continue coming. The music video is also an interesting one, something unique that I enjoyed watching.
Good Life - The Preview (EP)
This song might sound familiar to some of you; Good Life was featured in a Taco Bell commercial before Chiddy Bang had acquired their current levels of popularity. While I enjoy some of their other songs more, Good Life is still an enjoyable song, and worth checking out.
Dream Chasin' - The Swelly Express (Mixtape)
Dream Chasin' is, in a way, the story of Chiddy Bang's early music career. It tells of how the duo wants to take on the rap game and turn the heads of labels, and how Chiddy Bang is chasing their dream. It's an enjoyable song with a real message and a simple yet well done music video.
Hey London - Air Swell (Mixtape)
A song about Chiddy Bang's impressions of visiting London, this song is typical Chiddy Bang. Proclaiming within their own song they have "less serious raps, I'm what you call a clown" Chiddy Bang reveals that they aren't pretending to be something they aren't or striving to change their image; they know they aren't making typical rap music, and they embrace that. For that reason, along with their talent of course, I am impressed with Chiddy Bang and am looking forward to their future productions.
There you have it. Volume II of Hip Hop Anonymous is in the books, as is the first Artist Spotlight edition. Feel free to share your thoughts about Chiddy Bang and this post, and as always thank you for reading and listening.
