Well with the way the Cubs are playing right now, you gotta start to wonder, when is Piniella going to have his first big meltdown as the manager of the Cubs?
If you look at what all is going on, his ace (Carlos Zambrano) can't find the plate, his guys are making baserunning mistakes across the board, and his bullpen (except Dempster, Wuertz and Cotts) is completely attrocious. Lou has to be getting fed up with the fact that the Cubs just aren't playing good baseball, and anytime they look like they are about to turn the corner they blow up. They got to a game over .500 most recently and then decided to lose 3 of their next 4, including today's game.
I'm not sure what they need to do, but apparently Rothschild needs to take every one of the Cubs' relievers and sit them down for a little heart to heart talk and find out what they got going on. And then maybe give Lou some options on who needs to go back to Triple A (Will Ohman) to get some work.
Either way if the Cubs continue with this ****, I'd put Lou's first major meltdown, perhaps a base throwing incident or some dirt kicking, within the next week to week and a half.
Quote of the Day:
“We've had some tough losses this season, believe me. You lose a close ballgame, they're all tough.”
--Lou Piniella

Let's just say, after leading the league in fewest runs allowed in early May, the Cubs pitching numbers were due for a bit of a correction ...
