The Baseball Version of D-Day is Amost Upon us! | ONE MAN'S OPINION

Well sports fans, quite possibly one of the greatest shows in the history of sports is about to get under way.... and one way or another.....the evidence and answers that many of us have been waiting for (and many of us feel that we already know) will be forthcoming very very soon!

Whatever happens at Tuesday's Congressional hearing with Mitchell, Selig and Fehr will only set the buffet table for the main course meal set for our dining pleasure Feb. 13th....the appearance of (and they will appear one way or another).....Roger Clemens, Brian McNamee, Andy Pettitte, Chuck Knoblauch, and Kirk Radomski!

It's a shame that it will take a few Congressional hearings and millions of taxpayers dollars to get to the truth.... but because of it the consequences will be just that much more severe for any and every one that is found guilty of lying, withholding or not producing (or not having) evidence, taking the fifth or any other reason that is found to be less than candid or in full cooperation of the Congressional Committee conducting the hearing!

Once both hearings have been concluded and their results made public, the Mitchell report will either be elevated to the lofty status as the "Holy Grail" of all future steroid and performance enhancing investigations and policy decisions and reforms....or the report itself will be rendered in many people's eyes.... as not worth the paper that it was written on! Either way, it will serve as much more than just a wake up call, it will become the impetus for change...and most of it will be good for all of professional sports and its most impressionable fans and participants.....millions of kids throughout the world!

All other U.S. professional sports leagues (including players, owners, managers, fans, commissioners etc.) should feel quite relieved (but they shouldn't relax or take a breather because the game is just starting) and thank major league baseball for standing in the batters box and taking several hard tight 120 mile an hour fast balls to the gut also on their behalf (to the head would kill them but the gut shot will only knock the wind out of them and hurt like heck)!

All professional sports should feel as if they are in the on deck circle, watching the toughest pitcher that they will ever face just blow through an all-star line-up like a flame thrower in a butter factory.....this is their warning pitch (quite possibly their only one) to clean up their acts.... or they just may very well find themselves next up to the plate!

Afore-mentioned above, once the real drama is over and done with and the proverbial "S" has hit the fan....some good will start to come from all of this and in the long run MLB and all of sports will be much better off for it!

But then again as always......
