Welcome to Troy O'Leary's Cow, a forum in which I plan to discuss the Red Sox, baseball in general, and my new baseball novel, The Curse of Carl Mays, now available on all internet bookseller sites.  I'm gonna pimp it, whore it, shill for it -- posting links, book reviews, interviews, maybe even excerpts -- and hopefully, between all the pathetic exhortations [buy it! option it for a movie! make me famous!] , we'll have some fun discussing the @!*%in Sawx and the game we love.

The name "Troy O'Leary's Cow" narrowly prevailed over a number of other worthy entrants:

Butch Hobson's Choice

Kevin Romine's Lettuce

Iced Tiante

Be My John Valentin

and a name that needs no additional modification:

Arquimedez Pozo

If you don't recognize any of these names from Sox history, well, as they say, you better axe somebody.

Anyway, welcome again.  My next post will probably be about the book.  Then we'll talk some horsehide.  But for now, please, let Howard be Howard ...

Isn't O'Reary's cow a Chicago reference? Regardless, welcome to FanNation and we look forward to your posts!

Yes, Mrs. O'Leary's Cow is a Chicago reference. Troy, not so much (though I think he may have logged some time up in Milwaukee).

Hopefully, I'll commit myself to this. I found the time to write a freakin' book [though I can't recall how], so I know it can be done.

Thanks for poppin' my comment cherry.

Mrs O'Leary's cow with a more Bostonian flavor... for my money you just can't beat a good molasses flood when you're talking metropolitan disasters.

Phill, that was a tremendous link, thanks. Never heard of that one. "Boston Molasses Disaster" would be a good name for the blog, too, though I like it better for a band. I love the way they tied to blame it on anarchists, which kind of slingshots us right back to Chicago and the Haymarket Affair.

It didn't take long for this blog to get off on a tangent ...
