I was very saddened today to hear the news of the passing of Bob Forsch. He was a mainstay of the Cardinal teams of my childhood....one of my first Cardinal heroes.
He was the only Cardinal to throw two no-hitters, and I remember vividly listening to the radio broadcast of each one. I also remember well the 3-hit shutout gem he tossed at Atlanta in the first game of the 1982 NLCS, propelling the Cardinals on to Ring #9. Just a true professional and a true Cardinal in every sense of the word.
I had occasion to meet Forsch briefly once in a corporate party room during a game a few years back. He was gracious and was a gentleman, and seemed very appreciative of Cardinal fans and the regard with which he was held in Cardinal Nation. Just came across as a heck of a nice guy.
RIP, Bob. Cardinal Nation has lost a good one.

I was lucky enough to be present at the game in Philly in 1982 (he pitched against Lefty and Lefty hit a home run?). Granted I missed most of the game but was able to see Bob pitch later that week in New York!

I still remember how I cheered when he plunked Jeff Leonard in the '87 LCS. I really liked Bob Forsh a lot. He was a great guy.

Not just a thrower, but a real pitcher. Command of the strike zone, working the corners, and showed the fastball to keep hitters guessing.
I remember the second no-hitter.
And the one-flap-down home run trot and followed by plunking Leonard at his next AB.
Well done, very well done.

If he is not in the HOF, he should be. His work ethic was, and still is to this day, second to none.
