Well we lost to SELA tonight in a close one 84-83. I really wanted to win this one but I took some good things from the game.
SELA beat the pre-season favorite Sam Houston at their house and after beating a competitive UCA I think we will be OK. We probably play the most true freshman in the conference so the more games we play the more we should improve as compared to the other teams within the Southland Conference. Anyways judging by the way we have played so far in conference I think we can go ~ .500 in conference and get a spot in the tournament. We are so much improved from two years ago and if we can learn to keep up our intensity for 40 minutes we will be hard to beat. We are going to have to atleast beat out 2 teams in conference to get in the tournament and the way things look l think we can beat out UTSA and A&M CC. Its still a long road but I will be there to root on my BOBCATS!!!!!
Tonight we looked so good at times and other times just didnt seem to keep up that intensity. The press worked as long as we gave 110% but if we gave anything less it broke down. I am still waiting for that game when our shooters are hot, and our slashers are cutting to the hoop, and the big men are dominating the paint. Hopefully we still have that break through game coming.
Something to note is that Fullenwinder seems to be coming out of his shooting funk and the two big men Sloan and Gough are making huge strides. The rest of the season should be very interesting.
All we need is enough games to get in the tournament and then its anybodys game. Its like Coach Davalos said sometime in december on his post game show, " We dont want to wait for next year for a Conference Championship we want one this year." Now I know thats going to be really hard to do this year but things look wide open and if we can just win enough games to get into the tournament we could see the Cats in the NCAA tournament.
