A solid 10-6 record this week keeps me very satisfied with my predictions up to this point. While I may not quite be matching the record of this guy on the radio out here (13-2 the last two weeks), I nonetheless have held my own against the NFL's cruel scheduling and parity. I love the way this NFL season is coming to a close, as I've yet to remember a season with so many possibilities and playoff contenders through 13 weeks. LT is close to breaking records, there have been 2 60+ yard field goals to win games this year, and an NFC wild card team might have a 7-9 record. It's all still mathematically possible, which is completely ridiculous!
How was my weekend? You guys probably don't care so I won't bore you with details, however it involved a birthday party, some adult fun, and someone flying into the wall and smashing his head, thanks to a close friend. I'll just leave it at that for now.
My fantasy team incurred some dangerously tough times, in which I miraculously won the week and secured a playoff spot. May that $100 prize be mine! I had 8 players or so score less than 7 points, yet I still won. That being said, I have to give mad respect to Reggie Bush and Tony Gonzalez. Not including them, I think I scored about 31 points... Bush and Gonzo put up 6 TDs and over 60 points between both of them. It all added up to a head to head showdown of Defenses on Monday night, with my Panthers being outplayed by the lowly Eagles. I somehow managed to squeak out a 2 1/2 point win, and there was much rejoicing.
As for the NFL games this weekend, another strong showing. I was extremely worried early on, as I had picked 4 of the first 6 scores I'd seen incorrectly, which lead me to believe I was in for a long week, but I luckily pulled out of the slump and finished solidly.
Heres the Fallout:
49ers @ Saints
I was treated to the real Reggie Bush, as were we all. So fast, so quick, so powerful. It was amazing to watch him move, however I still think he looked uncomfortable. He's just not smooth, too jerky, too fast, too willing to give out contact. Its a good thing he was playing the 49ers, otherwise he'd probably not be walking very well this week. He needs to slow down his mind and just run smarter, otherwise he could be taken out in the next few weeks. With that win and the Panther's sad loss against the Eagles, the Saints have all but wrapped up the NFC south, and should cruise to an 11-5 record on the year.
Cardinals @ Rams
I don't know how or why the Rams have become so bad lately, perhaps Marc Bulger's correct... the team doesn't care! How can you not care about a game in which you get paid millions of bucks to do? Who knows, I'm no football player. Matt Leinart might be the most cocky person in the world, you can see it in his smirk always... Then again, how can you not be when you are rich, young, and have probably hooked up in one way or another with every 20-something in L.A.? Damn, I wish I was Matt Leinart, I mean, who wouldn't want Nick Lachey as a floormat in your apartment?
Chargers @ Bills
I think I already said this once or twice before, but LT is the MVP this year. Screw that nonsense about Reggie Bush, Peyton your reign is passed (for this year), and Drew Brees, you're unlucky that LT doesn't play for the Giants Defense anymore. Laidanian Tomlinson is the best back in football, thank you. Bills played the Chargers tough too, but the Bolts are just too strong. I'm taking the Chargers to win the Super Bowl, and you can give me 6:1 odds on it.
How could the Chiefs lose their season to the Browns in OT? Wow, I got nothing else to say about that debacle.
Colts @ Titans
Vince Young (shaking my head). My unicorn. What else does this guy need to beat my prediction? A 60-yard game winning field goal? Ya right, like that would ever happen. I might just stop picking the Titan games from now on.
Mike Vick is only 71 yards away from 1,000 on the year. Oh wow, Mike Vick is going to set a record. Too bad he's a QB and he's chasing Eric Dickerson, that's a race he can't win.
I'm ashamed to have thought the Packers could score 14 points on the Jets.
How bout my Lions, fighting til the end against the dynasty? Impressive performance, kitty kats.
Those Dolphins have suddenly fallen out of it apparently
David Carr's -5 passing yards
That throw by Romo good for 42 yards
Jay Cutler might single-handedly destroy Javon Walker's potential, and derail my fantasy team in the playoffs
I finally dropped the Pourous Panther's Defense this week
In additonal notes, how upset am I by the $14 million a year given to JD Drew? How about the $9 million given to Julio Lugo? Once Manny gets traded, this team is going to fall face first onto the sidewalk and we may not see the playoffs til the next decade. I love listening to my idiotic neighbors harping on and on about how the Sox should trade Manny for a guy like Ervin Santana. Oh ya, boffo, thats a great move. Our rotation right now includes Josh Beckett (who cannot possibly pitch worse than last year), Curt Schilling (who's on his final hurrah and doesn't care about his arm falling off), Jon Papelbon (who we all are crossing our fingers for as a starter), Jon Lester (who's lymphoma is in remission), and Tim Wakefield. With Matsuzaka, the Red Sox have the dirtiest pitching staff in the A.L. East. Throw in wild cards such as Matt Clement, Timlin, Manny Delcarmen, and Craig Hansen, and we might have a W.S. contender on our hands again. Anyway, some people are so ignorant and yet they still think they have all the answers. The answer is in keeping Manny Ramirez, as without him, David Ortiz might as well walk 270 times this upcoming year, and any chance of him winning the MVP will be traded away. Do the smart thing and keep Manny, Mr. Epstein.
By the way, check out this crazy RB in high school, named Noel Devine. He looks better and faster than Reggie Bush.
who looks better to you?
