I had a bit of a rough week picking last week. I missed all three of the next best 3 games to go with one SEC game. My record last week was 6-4, which was kind of embarrassing. But, three weeks into this blog, I sit with a 21-6 record. It could definitely be better, but it's not bad start. Hopefully I can improve on that this week.
If Oklahoma State slips, there's one qestion on everybody's mind. Should Alabama be given a rematch against LSU(assuming LSU wins out of course)?
In my personal opinion, Bama would be more deserving of a rematch than Oregon. Oregon lost fairly badly to LSU, while Bama was just a couple made field goals away from victory. Now that Boise State has been eliinated from a Championship shot, if Oklahoma State slips, the discussion comes down to four teams. Bama, Oregon, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State.
If this were to happen, I think we could count Oregon out. It's highly unlikely they jump Bama, and I dubt they would jump Oklahoma State, and they would definitely be jumped by Oklahoma.
I also think Oklahoma State would be eliminated because, they would have a loss to Oklahoma, and they wouldn't win the Big 12. Oklahoma and Bama would both likely jump them in rankings.
This would come down to Oklahoma and Bama. IMO, I think the computers would rightfully give Oklahoma the shot. Bama lost to LSU at home. They had their chance to beat them, and they didn't. Not to mention, Bama would not only not win the SEC, they wouldn't even make the SEC Championship Game. Oklahoma inning the Big 12, and not yet having a shot at LSU should give them the nod.
If this scenario plays out, who do you think ets a shot at LSU?
The Way to Make This a Weak Week for SEC Games with your Cupcakes
The Citadel @ South Carolina- It's called a cupcake game for a reason. I don't know much about the Citadel, but I don't think I'm going out on a limb when I say South Carolina won't miss Lattimore for this game. South Carolina will be more concerned about hoping Kentucky can upset UGA than they will be for this game. South Carolina wins 56-0
Samford @ Auburn- Auburn might be a four loss team, and they might have been taken to the woodshed by Georgia, but I can't see them losing to an average FCS team. Auburn some how manages to stay in the BCS Top 25. Auburn wins easily, 49-7
Furman @ Florida- Another matchup between an SEC team and a four loss FCS team. Amazing, I know. Florida is a better team than their record indicates. Their losses have came against the best teams in the SEC, and they didn't hve Brantley for three of them. I think Florida will take out their frustration this week. Florida wins 58-3
Georgia Southern @ Alabama- At least this one is against one of the best FCS teams. At any rate, Bama still has arguably the best defense in the country, and I doubt an FCS offense is gonna change it. The starters will be sitting by the third quarter. Bama win 48-0
The These are Conference Games, but they're Still Gonna be One Sided
LSU @ Ole Miss- The best team in the SEC vs the worst team in the SEC, that's coming off a loss to Louisiana Tech, and their starting QB and RB are sitting out this game. If you love seeing LSU's defense dominate, this is the game for you. Ole Miss's offense wasn't anything to brag about before the suspensions. With the suspensions, this game just gets ugly. Ole Miss doesn't have a defense to speak of either. I honestly don't see a way Ole Miss loses by less than 35. LSU should have no problems defensively, and Ole Miss's defense is bad enough to make LSU's offense look like a juggernaut. LSU wins 48-0
Kentucky @ Georgia- If Georgia wins this game, they go to the SEC Championship Game. If they lose, they have to stay home and watch South Carolina play in the big game. So, even though this game doesn't seem very interesting, there is a lot riding on it. Kentucky is a down right terrible team. They are terrible on both sides of the ball. There'sa reason why their only conference win is against Ole Miss. Georgia has a lot of momentum coming into this game after their dominating performance over Auburn. I can't see them slipping against the second to last place team in the SEC East between the hedges. Georgia has one of the better defenses in the SEC, and Kentucky's weak offense plays into their favor big time. Georgia has also shown they can put up a lot of points against weak defenses. You will see Georgia in the SEC Championship against either LSU or Bama. Georgia wins 56-7
The This Would Have Been Interesting if Preseason Rankings Held True
Mississippi State @ Arkansas- Mississippi State has been playing better ball lately. They hve a decent defense, that will likely keep this game from being blowout, much like the Bama game. But, they can't rely on Vick Ballard to win games against the top teams in the SEC. He is a great running back, but they are going to have to get a passing game going if they are gonna make life difficult against the top teams in the SEC. MSU's one dimensional offense plays into Arkansas' favor. Arkansas doesn't have a top defense, but they have a good enough defense to not let one player beat them. Like I said, MSU does have a decent defense, but Arkansas' offense is high octane and running on all cylinders. Tyler Wilson is one of the best QBs in the SEC, and he has four solid receivers to throw to. It wo't be a blowout, but Arkansas will win, 31-17
Game of the Week(I had to pick one)
Vanderbilt @ Tennessee- Vanderbilt is a better team than their record indicates. They damn near beat Florida, Georgia and Arkansas, and Bama had trouble with them. Tennessee on the other hand is yet to win an SEC game, and they are worse than their 4-6 record indicates. Tennessee has a weak offense that could still be without their QB. They have a decent defense, but they are gonna have to score if they plan on winning. This is a big game for both teams when it comes to making a bowl game. If Tennessee wins, they will sit at 5-6 heading into their season finale with Kentucky. If they lose, they are eliminated from bowl contention. Vandy sits at 5-5. If they win, they will be bowl eligible. If they lose, their season finale against Wake Forest becomes a must win game. That, and the fact that this is an in state rivalry game, anything can happen.
Vandy has a very solid running game. Lead by Zac Stacy, they can run on any SEC team not named LSU or Alabama. Wth Aaron Rodgers' little brother at QB, Vandy has a big edge on offense IMO. When it comes to defense, while Vandy does hav a decent defense, I have to give a slight edge to Tennessee. In the end, I'm not confident in Tennessee's ability to score. I think Vandy has a good enough defense to shut down Tennessee's offense. I'm also very confident in Vandy's running game, and I think they will scre enough to win this one. Vanderbilt wins 21-14
The Next Best 3
Nebraska @ Michigan- I'm far from a B1G guru. If you want a better, more in depth breakdown of this game, you should check out Rudedog's Big Ten and the Next Best 3 blog. From what I have saw, I haven't been impressed by Nebraska's defense, while Michigan's offense has been very solid. I've also noticed that Michigan plays solid defense. In a very important game for both teams, I look for Michigan to win 35-28
Oklahoma @ Baylor- The computers are high on Baylor, and they have a chance to ruin any chance Oklahoma has at a Big 12 Championship and a National Championship appearence. But, Oklahoma's offense should be too much for Baylor to handle. Baylor isn't known for their defense, Oklahoma will put up points. Oklahoma's defense is a solid unit as will. RG3 will have his work cut out for him in this one. I look for Landry Jones to have another big game. Oklahoma wins 56-21
USC @ Oregon- USC might not be eligible for postseason play, but they can damn sure play spoiler to a team with National Championship hopes. In the end, I'm not sure USC's defense can hang with Oregon's high octane offense, and Oregon's defense has impressed me as well. Like B1G games, I'm not a Pac 12 expert. If you want a better, more in depth breakdown, check out Orac/OM's Pac 12 and the Next Best 3. But, I like Oregon to win, 48-35.
