I've mentioned this a couple of other places, but I'm depressed. I REALLY wanted to see the old man take Green Bay to the big game this year, and they blew it. They weren't playing with the passion and drive I've seen all season long.

So now I'm left with a decision-- not as hard as the Capitol One Bowl, mind you, but a decision nonetheless: do I even bother to WATCH the Superbowl this year? I have no buy-in, and it's pretty anticlimactic for me.

I've been pretty open about my dislike for this Pats team and Christ Incarnate--er, I mean Tom Brady. I really can't pull for them to go 19-0, even though I'll lay odds that is what is going to happen (and I'm not a gambling woman.)

BUT, I can't stand Eli Manning, either. (Love Peyton, hate Eli. Can't wait to see how the third one turns out for me.) I'm not-so-secretly hoping that Eli goes out hurt early on and the Giants win without him. And as wrong as it is to wish injury on someone, that is the only way I'll get any satisfaction from the game.

Anyone else out there with me?

I'm with you. I think the NFL is with you also. A Pats v Packers was best case scenario for the SB....Pats vs Giants is the 2nd worse scenario (second only to Giants v Chargers).

I'm wondering how many millions of viewers they lost for the SB when Tynes made that kick.

This is an exciting match-up of two teams that staged a battle royal just 24 days ago. When the game was approaching, everyone questioned both teams for preparing to play: the PATRIOTS for risking injury for a perfect regular season and the GIANTS for risking injury to make the PATRIOTS earn their place in history.

The game was so important, Congress intervened to pressure the NFL to make it available to the viewing public, and when it was simulcast on two networks, I joked that we were watching the SuperBowl. Well ... well ... well.

And now both teams are being rewarded for keeping their foot on the gas.

I am so pleased it will not be the PACKERS. That team bores the hell out of me. The last time the PATRIOTS played them in Lambeau field, they won 35-0, and both Favre and Rodgers left the game with injuries.

Now if the PACKERS did manage to beat the GIANTS, I would have been more excited b/c then the SB would have matched the two best teams. And now I am even more excited because now I know the SB STILL MATCHES the two best teams. What a gutsy performance by the GIANTS to win 10 straight on the road, including in frigid Lambeau. I am stoked about watching two teams playing on the road who both know how to win on the road.

Wow!

This is only a game you care about if you are an East coast elitist. The rest of us don't care. I'm with ya' buck-i-girl!!

January 22, 2008  11:39 AM ET

So you mean, no one outside the heartland cared when the BEARS and COLTS tussled last year?

Everyone will tune in because it's the SuperBowl, because the PATRIOTS have a history of playing in close thrilling SuperBowls, because the last time these two teams met, they staged a battle royal before the largest audience in two decades, and because the PATRIOTS have a chance to finish the post-season the way they finished the reg season, with perfection. Only this time, if they do it, there will be a coronation. Greatest team of all time.

Agreed Larry. But I am not yet ready to boycott Oreos. As a true fan of chocolate cookies and creme filled centers, I will continue to eat OREOS, even though Tom Brady is not in the commercial.

BTW, I guess that when SEATTLE and PITTSBURGH played their Superbowl, the only TVs tuned into that game were residents of the Seattle and Pittsburgh areas.

January 22, 2008  12:08 PM ET

Worst Super Bowl ever was Ravens vs. Giants, hands down. Seattle/Pittsburgh was darn close. Pats vs. Giants will be entertaining. The Pats will win, but it will be a fun game.

Larry- My loyalties are NCAA first, NFL second. I do love football in all its forms-- I watch AFL, CFL, NFL Europe, and was one of the six people who watched (and two who liked) the XFL-- I just can more easily buy into the college game and pull for teams I normally wouldn't on that level.

As far as the NFL goes, my teams have been out of the running for quite some time now. Of the ones remaining, I pulled for the ones I could. I'm just looking for some way to buy in here... my dislike runs pretty deep for key factors on both teams, so I'm having a hard time finding a reason to ignore that hatred...

"This is the biggest sporting event in the world... If nothing else, the TV superbowl ads alone make it worth watching."

THERE! *That* was the reason I was looking for-- the commercials. NOW I have a reason to watch the game... Thanks.

But "go shopping"?! Seriously? Would you tell a GUY that?

:)

If you want to appear to have a football IQ, then take in as much of this season as you can.

January 22, 2008  04:47 PM ET

Methinks Bluesilver doth mean to offend... but lo, I am not so easily turn-ed by so ill-timed and ill-informed a remark...

January 24, 2008  10:03 AM ET

No offense intended. Just saying that folks may be talking about this season for years. Some folks talk a mean game about Otto Graham's Cleveland Browns and the 5 championships in 7 years won by the pre-SB Packers. I'd love to have the information at my fingertips to be able to discuss those teams and seasons intelligently, but alas I was not yet born. Nor did I do any of the research.

If history is made, you will be here for it. Or the PATRIOTS organization could be one huge blind spot if you choose.

January 26, 2008  06:08 PM ET

Even if I don't watch the game, there will be NO way I will be able to remain ignorant about the outcome, stats, highlights, etc. EVERYBODY will be talking about this one, and unless I move to Gilligan's Island, Ill learn about it...

January 26, 2008  06:08 PM ET

%$@#@... "I'll"

January 26, 2008  06:21 PM ET

There's a third Manning?

Wow.

January 26, 2008  06:34 PM ET

Yeah-- but I goofed-- he's the oldest, not the youngest... doesn't play ball anymore (was a wide receiver.) It would have been too easy if Eli had middle-child syndrome...
