HOMESTEAD, Fla.
Crew chief Darian Grubb spent Sunday night celebrating a NASCAR Sprint Cup championship. When he wakes up Monday, he'll be looking for work.
Winner takes all
Grubb, who guided Tony Stewart to NASCAR's top-shelf title, was informed in October that he would not be back in the position next year.
"It still is (baffling) to me, honestly," Grubb allowed, as he addressed reporters in the hours after his team won the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway. "I'm not really sure what's going to happen now. I was told early on in the Chase. ... I wouldn't be here. But we kept fighting and it didn't change anything we were going to do as a team.
"Now that we've done that (win a championship) I guess we'll start talking. We're going to celebrate first.''
There have been rumors about Grubb moving to Hendrick Motorsports, where he made a name for himself - filling in for a suspended Chad Knaus and leading Jimmie Johnson to the 2006 Daytona 500.
Grubb did not rule out staying with Stewart-Haas Racing, but Stewart was non-committal when asked about his crew chief's future.
"I know what his status is for the rest of the night," Stewart said with a smile, "and I'm going to get him drunk.
"There's a lot of things in the offseason and decisions that have to be made. We wanted to get through this championship battle and then we'll figure out (the) direction of our program."

Morning all. This has been brewing, and if tony had totally crashed and burned after the first two wins we would be singing a different tune. But he didnt. We will need to wait and see if this decision is engraved in stone, yet, or if there is still active discussion. There will be a need for a third CC, likely someone from HMS, as Kasey is bringing his current CC in to the #5 as i understand it. Zippy had earlier this year left the door ajar just a little bit that his time at JGR may be getting short. Roush has an extra CC right now with the #6 team shutting down, as does RCR? not sure there. There is about as much silly season going on with Crew chiefs as drivers this year.

I missed seeing this last week: FLOAT! How about a Bonehead of the Year Award:
The nominees are:
Jeremy Mayfield
Brian France
Kyle Busch
(write in candidate 4)
(write in candidate 5)
Mayfield was seen at trucking company where trailers were stolen:
[former Sprint Cup driver] Jeremy Mayfield was spotted in the cab of a tractor trailer and some of the furniture stolen from the trucking company where he was seen has ended up in his home, a police search warrant says. Police raided the former NASCAR driver's home on Nov. 1 after they got a tip that stolen items were there. They found some meth and Mayfield was later indicted on a felony drug charge. The police also found $100,000 worth of stolen items and now a trucking company says that furniture they had was found in the stolen loot, according to a search warrant. The incident involving Mayfield happened at 3 am on Feb. 26 when a tractor trailer -- without a trailer -- was parked in the rear lot of Anderson Truck Lines in Hudson, the warrant says

Morning all, I missed the race yesterday helping a friend move, although I am not yet quite sure if missing the race was good or bad...
Anyway I figure Zippy will be the CC on the #14 next year. Grubb will either be the CC of the #10 or SH Director of Competition.

No reason to let him go to another organization. Moving him to either spot would be win/win.
As CC of the #10 you have a "championship winning CC" to help attract sponsors who may be on the fence with sponsoring a part time driver. While a CC is semi-less of a draw to the driver, Grubb can put the car in a position to be featured in the race which is what sponsors would want.
As Competition Director her could help the organization grow as a whole. Make the #39 competitive and help the fledgling #10.
Or lease him out to JR Motorsports for the season and have Grubb be co-CC of the NW #7, and then he becomes the CC of the #10 next year.
There are a lot of options, and I am sure Tony already has it figured out, he just wants Grubb to sweat it out a little yet.

If Grubb is out of a job it won't be for long. I assumed that Zippy was coming back to work with Tony again. As was said above, moving him to the 39 team or promoting him would make the most sense.

Not me, I have very thick skin. Being a Kyle fan since the beginning, you learn to roll with the punches. LOL At times I wonder why the Jooonya fans get so upset if someone throws a shot at him.
