The NFL's refs are becoming a laughing stock of late. EVERY game we expect them to blow it on the tough calls, and even when using a second set of eyes (replay booth) we expect them to loose a call every so often. It's a tough job, but seriously, what's been going on of late is insane. The last straw was the inexcusable blown call in the Cinci/Balt game that even had Peter King today scratching his head. LAST TIME I CHECKED REFS, WHEN THE BALL CROSSES/TOUCHES THE FRONT PART OF THE WHITE LINE, IT'S A TD!!! The very instant it does. NOT when the player or the ball finally rest on the ground after crossing the plane of the goal line. Seriously, you idiots believe what you called is the correct interpretation of the rule?

SOOOOOO, that being said (or in this case...screwed up), it's time the refs get their just do's. If players are going to get fined for their actions on and off the field, the refs need to be held accountable too. It's time to dock them pay, or even suspend them game(s) for these failures during the game. Their actions can weigh heavily on the outcome, just as any players action(s) can, such as a penalty (by coincidence, thrown by a ref!) during the game.

Hey NFL, it's time the game was maintained evenly, and fairly. That means blasting the refs every so often with a stiff penalty of their own when needed. MAYBE, just maybe, this will keep the refs in check, and prevent them from throwing flags when we all know they're only in it for their 15 minutes of fame every game.

Going back to the Bears @Lions game a year ago, there was that "funny" rule interpretation on Calvin Johnson's catch (where he laid it down but it was ruled that he never had control - or something).

Since then, the NFL has been standing on its head to (1) try not to get into the same fix again by making outer outrageous calls and (2) maintain what they feel is the "integrity" of a rule which counters the way every non-NFL game officiates such things.

The NFL can't have it both ways. Either the rule makes sense (which is laughable in my opinion), or the officials are calling plays in accordance with NHL policy which they must know is stupid. It affects the quality of the game when even the officials are in a position to go against common sense when they try to enforce an unacceptable rule.
