Reports are out that Jim Fassel is the "front-runner" for the Skins' coaching job, after a third interview. Please, tell me this is just a leak to gauge public opinion. 'Cuz here's mine:
ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING?
This is the guy who was fired at midseason by Brian Billick, because his offense wasn't performing, and if I recall correctly, he wasn't really putting much of himself into his job, seemingly because he saw it as a stopgap before getting another head coaching gig. Billick was a great friend of Fassel's, and the decision pained him. After the firing, the Ravens won 9 of 10 to finish the season with a first-round bye.
It was in Fassel's offense that we all wrote off Jamal Lewis as a has-been.
It was in Fassel's offense that Steve McNair started looking old. He had a 64.1 rating before Fassel was fired, and by the end of the season he got it back up to 82.5.
It was in Fassel's offense that Kyle Boller looked terrible, and not like the barely sub-par quarterback he is.
It was in Fassel's offense that veteran wideout Derrick Mason said "to heck with football" out of frustration.
It was Fassel's Giants who finished 4-12, enabling them to draft Philip Rivers and trade him for Eli Manning.
The Giants have missed the playoffs once since Fassel left, going 6-10 in Tom Coughlin's first season. They've made the playoffs as many times in Coughlin's 4 years as they did in Fassel's 7.
I'm sure I could find more. But I don't want to, because frankly, it's making me sick. Don't do it, Snyder. Don't you dare do it.
