Forget about the Kardashians, Barbara Walters. Forget about Derek Jeter (and I like him). Forget about getting all clever in your annual picks for the Most Fascinating People of 2011. You didn't select Tim Tebow. Therefore, you got it wrong.

There is not a human being in the sports world more fascinating than Tebow. There may not be a human being anywhere as fascinating, not this year and maybe not for a few decades. The guy gets criticized 24/7 for his questionable throwing arm, for not being good enough to play professional football. Yet he never fires back at his critics, a rarity these days. He doesn't Tweet about what people are saying about him that he may find offensive and disrespectul. He goes about his business. Can you imagine Kim Kardashian turning the other cheek when she gets ripped?

I don't care who else you named to your list this year. None of them has done what Tebow has done. Tebow is doing things for his football team that, for once, the so-called experts are admitting they can't explain and they've never seen before. They have no real insight into how this guy is doing what he's doing. They're baffled. Tebow has rendered the big talkers speechless. In his first seven games as the Broncos starting quarterback, he has won six of them including three in overtime. No one predicted this. I didn't. But I'm not baffled. They guy works his tail off to be as good as he can be. Hard work--over the top labor to stand out from the crowd--rocks. It works, too.

Never has a group of teammates rallied around a guy the way they have Tebow. Like us, they are mesmerized by his drive, basic goodness, willingness to run right into gigantic defenders and take their wicked hits. He doesn't complain about the pain. He seems to relish it. He prays. He thanks God. Publicly. Not many do that. He says this isn't Tebow time, it's Bronco time. It's about his team. And he means it.

Fascinating? Are you kidding? When was the last time someone like this came along in the sports world, or anywhere? Derek Jeter is a nice guy, admirable. He got his 3000th career base hit this year and has gaggles of giggling girl friends.

That's all fine but hardly fascinating. That's an old movie. Gaggles of God references by a guy who doesn't waste time getting bitter at anyone is remarkable, a once in a lifetime human being who keeps winning. No one has ever seen this movie before and we may never again.

Kim Kardashian turned the other cheek... and knocked over a lamp.
