Beginning on Friday, this series with the Yankees and Mets may be the most hyped of the week. Actually, it probably is. The starters for Friday are Andy Pettitte for the Yanks and Oliver Perez for the Mets. Here I've got a scouting report on both pitchers, courtesy of www.yankees.com.
Pettitte pitched great in his last start on Mother's Day, surrendering just 2 runs and nine hits in 7 1/3 innings to the Mariners. Unfortunately, his Yankee offense couldn't provide enough for him with the pink bats and lost, 2-1. Tough luck. In fifteen starts against the Mets, Pettitte has gone 7-2 with a 3.39 ERA. At Shea, he's 2-1 with a 3.94 era. Pettitte this year has been very consistent and has gone 2-2 with a 2.68 ERA. Hopefully there will be a better outcome against the Mets Friday.
Perez this year has shown much improvement. He's shown he can be a consistent pitcher. So far. Who knows what will happen down the stretch. His last outing against the Brewers. He came within two outs of a complete game. And if he hadn't given up a homer to Bill Hall on his last pitch, he would've had a shutout. He also had 6 strikeouts.
So, who is our winner in game one? I'll let you decide. Just comment on this or send me fanmail and I'll be happy to read what you think. Also, if any devoted Yankees fans are reading this, you may want to join my group, the Bronx Bombers fan group. We'll always be happy to accomodate new members. I'd love to hear what you all think. I have the scenario. You decide the winner.
