Yesterday's playoff game between the 49ers & Saints was one of the greatest playoff games ever. 4 lead changes in the last 4 minutes? Incredible. Alex Smith grew up yesterday. The most mistreated Quarterback of the last 20 years, suffering through some of the most brain dead coaching, finally has coaches who, incredibly, know how to coach!
One must, as hard as it is to say, thank incompetent boob Mike Singletary for forcing Vernon Davis into becoming a man, not simply the diva he was when he came to the Niners. Now a respected team captain, he had one of the best playoff performances by a tight end ever.
Yes the defense gave up alot more points than usual, but the sometimes overly conservative coaching was thrown out the window. Smith throwing into tight coverage? Not something you see very much, which is one reason he only had 5 picks all year. But some of those downfield throws were beautiful. As for the winning Td pass, get this: it was a new play drawn up by the quarterbacks coach & had never been used in a game! It was designed for Vernon Davis & no one else. It was even called "Vernon Post". Only a gutsy, inventive coach like Jim Harbaugh would have called that play, rather than just go for a tying field goal.
Hopefully the media will give some credit. Unlike ESPN, which wanted to waste valuable airtime on a 30 point blowout (oh dear St. Tim lost!).
