While "Orange drips with optimisim" the city of Syracuse drips with fair weather fans...

Training camp opened today August 7 and all reports point to a fresh start for players and coaches with the promise of a better season---then again it couldn't be worse right? Its comments in that direction that have SU football players well aware of the doubt that their fans have in their ability to change their 1-10 2005 season. With last years rookie players now returning players and head coach Greg Robinson back to take a fresh crack at bringing success to the Orange could things be looking up? 

Everyone has predictions, reporters and sports analysists will give you their take, coaches talk new strategies, players access the talent level and experience gained from all the losing but as an SU fan what sticks with me is starting quarterback Perry Patterson's insight in a recent article featured in the Syracuse Post-Standard, "I don't think a lot of people believe in us right now." Unfortunately, I think he's right.  

The truth of the matter is maybe it will be better and maybe it won't--no one knows until kick off. And that's where the fans come in---sure its been a couple rough seasons and "Dome Dogs" and overpriced beers can only take you so far before you need something to be "cheersing" to other than the backview of the cheerleaders....though thats always worth a tailgate toast. But, its time to be true Orange fans---rain or shine---win or lose---and let these guys know that we are as optimistic as they are. 1-10 in 2005 means nothing in 2006 ---

Patterson also remarked in the same interview, "We started to win the fans back a little bit in the spring but we all know that it's going to take everybody on this team" Lets let the Orange worry about winning games not fans---

Don't be a fair weather fan... show up this season not just looking for the sun but instead---bring the thunder.
