I'm having a hard time believing this has been a good week of racing, from day one at the Bud shootout to Saturdays Nationwide race this has been a wreck fest, and we still have the Daytona 500 to go, if you like a demolition derby this has been a great weekend for you.

Coming off a 2011 season that  I considered the best and most entertaining season I've seen in my five years as a NASCAR fan I can honestly tell you I don't even want to watch the Daytona 500 specially if is going to be another slam fest.

So far there has been no complaints from drivers or owners about whats going on but I am willing to bet that after over three dozen race cars and trucks trashed in this past week the folks driving and the owners putting up the money have to be furious about the new Daytona rules imposed by NASCAR.

I see the "detrimental to the sport rule" all  over this, you know, Mum's the word.

Folks we can all agree that waiting in the back of the field till everybody wrecks and being lucky enough to drive your way through a junk yard full of race cars to win is not racing.

Maybe I'm wrong but I think most fans like to see the teams work their way up to the front the old fashion way, you know by BEING FASTER.

UPDATE:

I watched the race with some occasional fans and some who just wanted to see Danica and the verdict was thumbs down, some quit watching after the first wreck, I just had a feeling this was not going to be a great event and in my opinion it wasn't.

Just saying.

As always this is a fans opinion and from what I understand everybody has one and I thank God for that.

Enough said.

This weekend will cost the smaller teams a fortune..might take half their budget if they wreck a couple cars...lol

Looks like you won't have to worry about watching the 500 this year asifyouknow, depending on your work schedule.

The wrecks are a part of pack racing. I personally thought the 2-car draft was better, you definitely saw more action and passes with that style of racing. The idea that it wasn't "real racing" because you needed a buddy is ridiculous, you need a buddy for pack acing too, look at how many drivers have been hung out already because they pulled out in the pack and didn't have a buddy. The 2-car draft gave us faster better racing, and I'd argue that with most of the incidents being single car spins, safer racing.

Well, you may be right about the two car draft...but the changes especially the cooling and the bumper and not allowing communication, oh and one more, no grease (Or what ever they used) on the bumpers have contributed to all this wrecking..seen a stat today that 67% of all cars and trucks that participated since the first practice, Bud race and beyond ( up to Nationwide) have wrecked....that is a high cost specially to mid-pack teams..something is wrong here I suspect NASCAR will fix it before the next pack race.......

But the wrecks are what the fans "expect" at Daytona and Talladega. NASCAR has flaunted since January testing these changes have been because "the fans" demanded it. Talking with someone today they made the comment that the 2-car draft made it look like the 2 cars were 1 long car. They felt the sponsors were the ones to complain the most about the 2-car draft.

As far as there being "something wrong", the only thing wrong in NASCAR's mind is going to be running the race on a Monday, possibly Tuesday instead of Sunday. Everyone knows the dangers of racing at Daytona, and if they only have a single car in the shop that is their problem not NASCAR's.

Last year Brian Keselowski, Brad's older brother, just made Daytona last year, had just a single car. He wrecked in the 500 and we never saw him compete in Cup the rest of the year. That's not NASCAR's problem, in NASCAR's eyes, so there is nothing for them to fix.

If you want a funny laugh read Brian France's open letter to fans on NASCAR.com. That's a knee slapper if I ever saw one.

Yes thankfully everyone was able to walk or drive away from their respective crashes. But that whole jet dryer incident was just bizarre. Never seen anything like it, and hopefully never will gain. At least JPM got some airtime right?
