There have been rumors floating around about all NFL teams with Free Agency about to start and the Draft coming up at the end of April.  I thought I would update the rumors on the Patriots side.  I have read numerous sites and of course many differ on which players the Pats should go after.  With 2 picks in the first round and 2 in the second, we should get a good start on upgrading the defense.

Boston Herald sports writer Ian Rapoportmade some predictions. For safety he mentioned Mark Barron from Alabama, even though he had surgery before the combine, he could be still on the board when the Pats pick at 27, another safety was Harrison Smith from Notre Dame, now he may have some insight having played for Charlie Weiss.

As for pass rushers, (which the Pats are deperate for) the names of Quinton Coples form N. Carolina, Melvin form S. Carolina, and Chandler Jones from Syracuse, its not to say we would take one, but its a thought.

Still other writers have mentioned CB Janoris Jenkins, although he comes with some baggage as he was kicked out of the university of Florida, failed a drug test and  was arrested twice for possession or marijuana. He is also the father of 4 children with 3 mothers, sad par is he is only 23 years old. I'm not sure the Pats are looking for a CB, but they have been known to take chance on some people with baggage. The most current one still on the team was Aaron Hernandez who had a failed drg test.  I think Belichick would take the gamble.

Also the Pats might be in the market for WRs.  Looking a the draft, a few names were mentioned, like Kendall wright from Baylor and Michael Floyd from Notre Dame.

Looking at free agents for the WR core, some intersting names came up. Brandon Lloyd, from the Rams, Reggie Wayne from the Colts, Marques Colton form N.O., also restriced FA Mike Wallace has been mentioned, which could give the Pats a deep threat. Randy Moss has been mentioned, but I think that ship has sailed.

Thanks Foxy, your views on the draft help me try to make sense of something I see as one chaotic mess. If anyone can turn Jenkins' personal life around it's Belichick. He always seems to pick one player that needs a bit more discipline than the others and helps them to shine. Not saying they won't eventually screw up again but, they seem to make an extra effort to clean up their act. I'm hoping the Pats go with Brandon Lloyd because of his connection to McDaniels who as you know is back on staff.

I do agree that they need to upgrade the D, first and foremost before anything else. I just hope that Belichick magic is in great supply.

Stay tuned for part II, a lot can change in 2 months and a lot more rumors will surface... I'll try to keep things updated if I hear anything about what's in Belichick's mind, but that's probably an impossible task, since he is of few words.....Bob Kraft probably doesn't even know what's on BB's mind....

Pats have approached OchoCinco to restructure his contract, The Patriots are always planning for the future. Whether they are truly committed to keeping Ocho or just clearing up some money in anticipation of some wheeling and dealing on draft day isn???t quite clear yet.

Just when I started breathing easy again what with the Pats placing the franchise tag on Welker, I find out it's a non-exclusive franchise tag which allows Welker to talk to other teams before signing a contract with the Pats. Oy Vey!

There's a message board topic saying Ochocinco and the Lions. Can't find anything anyway to suggest it's anything more than wishful thinking.

Even though its a non-exclusive tag, the Pats get to match any offer from another team or receive 2 first round picks...Don't think Welker is going anywhere, the Pats want him and he wants to stay there...rest easy tonight......lol

Sometimes I really hate the way Mr. Kraft plays nickel and dime on these contracts.

Did you know Randy Moss paid a visit to the Krafts when Myra died? I think I read that he also sent a card and signed it Randy Moss Kraft. Talk about wanting to feel/be treated like a member of the family again. Think the Pats will give him another shot if he can't find anyone to sign him?

49ers signed Moss to a one-year deal. I wish he and the team good luck.

Pats offer Welker $16 million for two years....sure hope it's enough to keep him in a Patriots uniform. They signed former Bengal defensive lineman Jonathan Fanene to a three-year $12 million contract with a $3.85 million signing bonus. I know they have to stay under the cap but c'mon, Welker deserves much more than he was offered.
