The Detroit Pistons went from being considered a complete laughing stock at the start of the season to becoming one of the hottest teams in the league coming into February. The Pistons started February winning four of their first five games and finished the month with an 8-6 record bringing them out of the murky depths of the Eastern Conference. Although they are still at the bottom of the Central Division, the Pistons remain somewhat respectable being just two and a half games behind third place which is currently held by both the Milwaukee Bucks and the Cleveland Cavaliers. The team???s performance improved across the board especially on the defensive end where they had held their opponents to under 95 points (currently the team average for points allowed) in seven of their games in February. As a team, the Pistons seem much more in sync than there were when they started the season; however the Pistons still do not like a team that is ready to take on the big dogs of the East just yet.

For starters, during the month of February, the Pistons did not face any real competition as all of their opponents save for one had records either at or less than .500. If they did not beat such teams as the New Jersey Nets, New Orleans Hornets or Sacramento Kings, it would have been rather embarrassing to say the least. Amongst their six losses, three of them came at the hands of teams that had worst records than they did. They started February losing a close one against the New Jersey Nets to start the month of February, got embarrassed by the Washington Wizards losing at home by as much as 21 points, and got absolutely humiliated by the Toronto Raptors on the road. The other three came at the hands of the Cleveland Cavaliers where Detroit only lost by one point, followed by an equally heartbreaking loss to the San Antonio Spurs and getting completely decimated by the Philadelphia 76ers.
