That the Greatest NBA player ever Wilt Chamberlain was another Shaq , and I say how ignorant . When Wilt came into the league he had a jump shot , finger-tip roll , fade-away bank shot , and a descent hook shot and was deadly with them all . Shaq's offensive game never developed much other than his array of many power dunks he didn't have a jump shot , fade-away , finger roll or hook . During Wilt's first seven years he scored like no other player in NBA history . Shaq never average 50 points a game and 25 rebounds a game in his dreams let alone on the court . Shaq never won 7 scoring titles or average 30.1 ppg and 22.5 rpg for his career in a watered down league when expansion increased the league to 30 teams during Jordan and Shaq's era . Jordan has some accomplishments that were aided when Pippen , Grant , Cartwright , Rodman and a host of 7 footers came along yet they pale in comparison to Wilt's . Jordan couldn't carry the poor teams he played on when he join the Bulls . As a matter of fact he was a loser until they got him some help . Wilt didn't have any help when he came into the league and still carried his teams to the playoffs . Jordan I have lost a lot of respect for you for trying to put Wilt in a class with Shaq or any other center , or player for that matter . Wilt has no equal the numbers and the records he holds to this day that still stand speak for the legend . How many did you and Shaq break combine MJ ?

How was the talent level when Wilt played?

It wasn't watered down like when Jordan was playing 30 teams Dr J , Magic , Bird and Zeke gone or on their way out . Plus Wilt'd era had more Hall Of Fame players in an 8 team league . Pick up a NBA history book and read you just might learn something if you don't get caught up in just looking at the pictures .

About the only similarity between Wilt and Shaq is they both had trouble shooting free throws at times. During the recent anniversary of Wilt scoring 100 points, looking at that old footage it's amazing how much talent Wilt had and especially how powerful he was and how explosive he was going to the rim. He couldn't be stopped.

LOL!!! Look I have a lot of respect for Wilt and what he did in the league but lets face it for all his dominance and 50 point games he only won 2 titles. Wilt also had the benefit of playing in a league which was, shall we say, "selective" at who played on their teams. The teams did not always pick the most talented guys to play for them. If you can honestly tell me that Wilt was playing the best and most athletic players in America then imo you choose to be naive... And Shaq had more than just dunks in his arsenal...maybe you need to watch a few of his games before you make such claims.....

I also dont buy the 'the current league is watered down' statement. I will bet you could take the guys on the worst current NBA team and their starters would make any team in Wilt's era. I usually do not like to compare eras but you opened the door..... Wilt dominated in his era, Jordan in his and Shaq in his.... You should leave it at that.

Here's a great article for you to read that completely blasts all of your points out of water. You have it completely backwards, in fact.

Wilt also has like 3 feet of height on all players.

Exactly what I was going to say. Imagine an 8-footer playing in the NBA right now. That's what Wilt was like. He was so much larger and stronger than any other player in the NBA. He was undoubtedly great but he was not greater than MJ who played against the strongest era of the nba ever.

Shaq is not even the greatest Lakers C of all time. I would put KAJ and his 6 rings and 38,387 points ahead of him. Hell, I'd probably put Wilt ahead of Shaq as well. Shaq had a great career although to me KAJ and Wilt are two of the three greatest C's in the history of the NBA. The other one I would put up there is a fella that when to 12 Finals in 13 years and got 11 rings.

I agree Kareem is the greatest Laker center and you can't leave Bill Russell out of the greatest centers conversation he along with Wilt were must see Tv in their era . The battle of the giants Russell was a great player that won more championships because his teams were much better in that era then anybodies and had the same coach until he became player coach . There were only 8 teams in the league not 30 so only the best in that era made it unlike today it's hit or miss . Look at Portland's Greg Oden and others .

Awesome article. If you haven't read The Book of Basketball, it's a pretty good one and I'd recommend it.

Why would I need to read the book I'm from that era and saw Wilt, Russell, Thurmond, Reed, Lucas. West, Robertson, Fraizer. Monroe, Baylor, Wilkens, Lanier, Heinson, Emery, Petits, some of the names are spell wrong and there are many more in a 8 team league . There was Wilt before Shaw and Baylor before Jordan and The Big O before Magic those guys could play in any era and be super stars

March 16, 2012  01:47 PM ET

I would take Hakeem Olajuwon over anyone at center. He had a variety of post moves, could drive, hit the j, finish with a jam, or pass. In the defensive end he was maybe even better. He (to me at least) is the best overall center to ever play the game.

*** Not from a Rockets fan btw.

Several statements on here are incorrect Wily had some serious teammates his 76ers teams had some great players.

The Lakers had sevarl hall of famers he played with to contend that MJ's teammates helped him more than Wilt's is truly untrue.

Wilt had on his teams more hall of famers than MJ, ever played with.

I agree Shaq is no Wilt never had any offensive ability to be even be mention in the same sentence with Wilt as a player.

But the idea that MJ had more help than Wilt is fictional.

Outside of Hal Greer and a rookie name Billy Cunningham who were these hall of famer's ? Chet Walker , Lucious Jackson , Wally Jones , Matt Guokas . You got it twisted that was Bill Russell's Celtics with all the HOF's not Wilt's 76ers .
