From analyzing what has occurred in the last couple months from January???s impressive performance to February???s rather lackluster results, one can draw the conclusion the Atlanta Hawks simply ran out of gas.  Simply look at Atlanta???s offensive output from the last two months and one will see a drop in scoring and shooting as well. From when the season started on Christmas Day to the end of January, the Hawks averaged around 98 points per game and scored in the hundreds in all but seven games in that span.  Fast forward to the month of February and one will see a drastic drop in Atlanta???s scoring as it dropped from nearly 100 points per game to just 90.4 per game.  Not only were they only able to score 100 or more points in just five times from February to now, but the Hawks had trouble even reaching 90 points as 13 of the 23 games that they played, Atlanta was held to just 89 points per game or less???the lowest being 77 twice losing against the Memphis Grizzlies (2/2) and the Portland Trailblazers (2/18).

So does this mean that that the Hawks have played their best basketball to start the season only to come sputtering the closer they get to the end?  It unfortunately seems that way from just glancing at the box scores for the past two and a half months and if that is the case, Atlanta is in a lot of trouble???not so much for this season, but for the years ahead.  Atlanta has lost much of the energy and excitement that it had emanated in the last couple of years and has seemed to have hit a wall and may be on the way to decline.  Joe Johnson, the team???s leading scorer and overall best player, has lost much of his quickness and has started to show signs of the ravages of father time???that right after sign a maximum contract extension that will be paying him up to 20$ million for the next five years.  After averaging more than 20 points per game in his first five years of Atlanta, Johnson has dropped to around 18 per game???his lowest scoring averages as a member of the Atlanta Hawks.(Click here to finish reading this post and so much more on JT's Hoops Blog)
