After starting so fast and furious in the month of January, the Philadelphia 76ers got a major reality check as they were knocked off their pedestal as one of the top teams in the NBA.  In February, the Sixers got knocked back to Earth going 6-9 for the month and started to look like the Philly team that many predicted them to be???a group of mediocre players that could not hang with the big boys.  Their offensive output went from moderately entertaining to downright ugly as the 76ers in a majority of their games could not even score beyond 90 points.  In their nine losses, Philly???s opponents held them to scoring just 85.5 points???two points less than the Sixers??? number one ranked points allowed.  At the same time they beat the Sixers by outscoring them with 92.0 points???two points less than the actual offensive that they have produced thus far in the season.
The Sixers??? offense which can be considered by most as anaemic at best, had gotten even worse as their opponents had held them to 90 points and under in eight of the games that they had played in February.  In three of those games, the Sixers could not even score 80 points as the Miami Heat held them down to 79 ( 2/3), the Clippers held them down to just 77 (2/10), 75 by the Dallas Mavericks (2/17), and down to 76 against the Memphis Grizzlies (2/21).  In one short month, Philly went from being the envy of the league to becoming an embarrassment as they stumbled through the month of February.  The Sixers??? only saving grace was that they had the luck to be stuck in a rather terrible Atlantic Division where they currently have held a iron grip on the lead thus far.  Neither the New York Knicks nor the Boston Celtics have been any real threat to Philly as both teams have been mired in inconsistency and distractions???essentially the free reign over the Atlantic (Click here to finish reading this post and so much more on JT's Hoops Blog)
