I was off of work yesterday so I did not blog about the Cardinals 4-1 win over the Marlins in Opening Day, Part 2 but it will be mentioned today....

Game of the Day:  Detroit 3, Boston 2

It looks like Justin Verlander hasn't missed a beat with his 8 shutout innings in the opener for both teams.  Verlander's stat line was 8 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 7 K, 1 BB.  Jose Valverde blew the save on a Ryan Sweeney double to right, however the Tigers got the win on a single by Austin Jackson.  What a great way for the season to start!

In other games.....

St. Louis 4, Miami 1:  3B David Freese continues to come up big for the Cardinals with a 2 run single off of Josh Johnson in the 1st Inning.  Kyle Lohse had a no-hitter thru 6 innings as well to shut down the Marlins in the Grand Opening of "The Big Fish Tank"!!!!

New York Mets 1, Atlanta 0:  Johan throws 5 shutout innings and David Wright hits the RBI single to lead the Mets to the win.

Toronto 7, Cleveland 4 in 16 innings:  RF Jose Bautista shines, Chris Perez blows the save for the Indians, and J.P. Arencibia hits a 3 run homer in the 16th inning to win the longest game in opening day history for the Jays.

Philadelphia 1, Pittsburgh 0:  Doc and Pap shut down the Buccos at PNC.

Washington 2, Chicago Cubs 1:  Watching Carlos Marmol pitch out of the bullpen is like watching a trainwreck as Marmol gives up a run-scoring single for the Nats as they scored a run in the 8th and 9th innings.

Cincinnati 4, Miami 0:  Johnny Cueto didn't have to drop kick anyone in the Reds-Marlins game as he threw 7 shutout innings for the Reds.

Los Angeles Dodgers 5, San Diego 3:  CF Matt Kemp goes yard for the Dodgers and powers them bast the Padres in Petco.

Slugger:  RF Jose Bautista, Toronto:  3-4, HR, 2 RBI, 1 R, 2 BB
Bautista seems to not miss a beat during the offseason, looks like the Blue Jays may be legit this season.

Ace:  SP Roy Halladay, Philadelphia:  Win, 8 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 5 K, 0 BB
I've got a feeling Doc may have to win a lot of games 1-0 or 2-1 this season for the Phillies.

On Deck:  New York Yankees(0-0) @ Tampa Bay Rays(0-0)
Probable Starters:  CC Sabathia(NYY) v. James Shields(TB)
The Yankees and Rays start this season where last season ended as CC Sabathia goes to the hill against James Sheilds.  The Rays have some questionmarks in the outfield and at the end of the bullpen with BJ Upton and Kyle Farnsworth on the DL.  This should be a good matchup.
