Don't you feel good this morning? A lying, wife-cheating, family-betraying, manipulative, self-centered egomaniac got what he deserved.
I'm talking about Bobby Petrino, the Arkansas football coach who got fired yesterday for lying to his athletic director, hiring his mistress to a job near his office (I wonder why?), being an all-around jerk. We're not supposed to be happy when other people fail and fall the way he has so dramatically in the past week. But this just feels good. Justice prevailed.
My take is Petrino thought he was such a smart and talented football coach that it went to his head. He got so full of himself that he couldn't resist the temptation to take advantage of all the Arkansas football fans who adored him because he made their beloved team a winner and national title contender. Just win, he figured, and he could be king of the campus, bigger and more powerful than anyone there.
He called his own play for himself this time and it blew up in his face.
I've never liked the guy's smug expression. Before I knew any of this latest stuff about him, he struck me as a shady character. What NFL coach quits on his team in the middle of the season, lies to them that he's not pursuing a college coaching position elsewhere? How unprofessional. Sometimes you're wrong to judge a person's demeanor as indicative of who they really are. In the case of Petrino, what was written on his face turned out to be exactly who he is.
