Well, it's 2012 but if your are Giants 1st baseman Brandon Belt it must feel exactly like 2011 all over again. Belt once again got to start the year as the starting 1st baseman only to lose the job as quick as he got it. Belt went 0 for 10 with 5 k's in the opening series at Arizona and hasn't started since. Manager Bruce Bochy is even on record saying the the Giants wouldn't yo-yo the kid this year and that the only reason Belt was sitting in Denver was to get rightfielder Nate Schierholtz his first start of 2012. I feel sorry for those Giants fans that actually believed a single word that came out of Bochy's mouth as he has said the same thing before only to do the exact opposite and bench Belt. If the Giants truely believe that the kid is the 1st baseman of the future  then why would you continue to confuse and stunt the prospects growth. He needs to learn how to fail and adjust at the Major League level. It's part of being a pro. Somehow vets like Pagan, Theriot, and Huff ( to his credit he has swung the bat well recently) are given the benfit of the doubt even though they are coming off of years where they would like to forget their numbers. Ryan Vogelsong is scheduled to come off the D.L. April 15th and it will likely be either Belt or reliever Dan Otero sent down to Triple-A to make room for his return. My guess would be Belt being sent to Fresno to get consistant AB's. One thing is for sure, if Brandon Belt can someday be the Giants everyday 1st baeman he will have to overcome some serious mental hurdles and win over a coaching staff that obviously doesn't believe in him even though the say otherwise. Talk is cheap and Bruce Bochy is selling a truckload. Good luck Brandon Belt, you will need it.
