March was a harsh month for the Cleveland Cavaliers as they started it losing their first three games by an average of eleven points. The Cavs managed to bounce back from that three game skid by winning three in a row against three Western Conference playoff contenders: the Denver Nuggets (3/7) and the Oklahoma City Thunder (3/9) on the road and the Houston Rockets at home (3/11). Unfortunately for the Cavs, they would finish March losing ten of their next eleven with their only win coming against the lowly New Jersey Nets (3/19) on the road. In a span of 31 days, the Cavs went from comeback team that had an outside chance of making the playoffs to falling all the way back to the bottom of the league. As if it were enough to go 4-17 for the month of March were bad enough for the Cavs, the team would also suffer another major blow losing their star player to injury for the rest of the season.

So far April has been less than favorable for the Cavs as they have lost five of their first eight games by an average margin of 14.8 points per game although two of those five were lost in overtime. Their only three wins came against three fellow cellar dwellers in the Eastern Conference: the Toronto Raptors (4/6), the Charlotte Bobcats (4/10) and the Washington Wizards (4/14). It will not get any easier for the Cavs as they will finish the season facing six teams that are jockeying for playoff positioning???namely the Orlando Magic (4/15), Philadelphia 76ers (4/18), New York Knicks (4/20), San Antonio Spurs (4/22), Memphis Grizzlies (4/23), and the Chicago Bulls (4/26). So expect this poor undermanned Cavs team to be used as a perennial punching bag as these teams will certainly not be taking it easy on them as they inch closer to the playoffs. Cleveland does have a chance however to reach 22 wins to finish the season as they will face two teams that have also been eliminated from playoff consideration in the Detroit Pistons (4/17) and the Washington Wizards (4/25).
