It's playoff time: can you feel the electricity? This season will boast probably one of the best group of Eastern Conference teams where all eight of them are above .500 for the first time in what may seem as eons. The playoff team with the worst record is the Philadelphia 76ers and they finished the season 35-31; compare that with the previous season where the worst team, the Indiana Pacers finished 37-45 and still managed to snag the final playoff berth. Last season, the New York Knicks earned the sixth seed with just a 42-40 record; however now they have grabbed a seventh seed while posting their best winning percentage in more than a decade at .545. One can certainly see from this solid showing of playoff team how much improved the Eastern Conference has become and how the gap between the East and West has narrowed quite a bit.
However, do not expect this postseason to be predictable by any means as all these teams are matched up quite well with each other in terms of position and size. There will be no givens and in fact there may be a playoff upset or two in the first round. I can certainly go as far to give the bold prediction that neither the Miami Heat nor Chicago Bulls, the teams with the two best records in the East will make the NBA Finals. In fact, I predict that the two teams that will reach the Eastern Conference finals will be two dark-horse teams that no one will even think of expecting to get there. Who they will be?
