Now it is time to discuss what the Western Conference will offer in the playoff. As it is every season it was a battle that went down to the wire as four teams--the Dallas Mavericks, Phoenix Suns, Utah Jazz and Houston Rockets--fought tooth and nail to reach the Holy Grail of professional basketball. In the end the Mavericks managed to hold on to the seventh spot while the Utah Jazz shocked the world by reaching the playoffs for the first time without their former coach of almost a quarter century Jerry Sloan. Many did not even believe that the Jazz would even reach .500 in the regular season let alone the playoffs at the same time, many expected last season's NBA Champion Dallas Mavericks to perform much better than they did this past regular season. However, that is all said and done and now it is time to separate the men from the boys and it will certainly will not disappoint.
Do not expect the same predictable playoff series where the top two teams make it to the Conference Finals as both the top seeded San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder will be facing truly challenging foes and not the usual pushovers that higher seeds face in the playoffs. In fact, as I predicted with the East, neither Oklahoma City Thunder nor the San Antonio Spurs will be heading to the Western Conference Finals and the one who will win the west will be a familiar face that has been to the NBA Finals three of the last four years. Many will disagree with my assessment, especially concerning the Oklahoma City Thunder pointing to their record which happens to be the second best record in the West; however, it is my affirmation that right now the regular season means nothing and it is now all about match ups. So prepare to be astounded and amazed as titans will fall and old champions will rise again in this years NBA Western Conference Playoff series.
