2 things I learned from watching the fight last night: 1. Cotto isn't busy enough in the ring against opponets like a "Mary"weather. And... 2. "Mary"weather to me really can't FIGHT, at least not in the sense I KNOW boxing. Cottos' SLOW, and plodding fight plan was never going to get him the win. YOU NEED to score POINTS, and Cotto spent the night walking around looking for "Mary"weather in the corner, or on the ropes. "Mary"weather fights like he's still in the amateurs, fighting with "white tipped" gloves, looking to score POINTS at will. With that in mind, COTTO NEVER had a chance unless he could have gotten LUCKY with one big punch. I'm NOT saying "Mary"weather didn't leave an impression on Cotto's face last night (or vise versa for that matter!) with some big hits of his own. I'm JUST saying "Mary's" STYLE is such that he looks like a fighter fighting to score points via the "amateur" style of fighting. His "patty-cake" style of fighting is unappealing to me, and a guy like Roberto Duran in his prime would have destroyed "Mary" with ease. Just MY view, nothing more. He's no Sugar Ray Robinson that's for sure.

Agreed in certain areas IMO.

@PAQ I suppose I could have added Ali's name to the list of complete fighters, but I just figured Robinson was a good enough example.

DITTO! Like I said, using Robinson was fine. "Mary" is no Robinson.

QUOTE(#5):

Clearly you dont know boxing at all.. Cotto has one of the better jabs in the sport for a short arm fighter.. and has above avg speed. The problem with fighting Mayweather is that He is so good on defense he makes a very good offensive fighter look very avg. Cotto landed about 20% of his punches.. which is a tribute to the defense that Mayweather has. Look at Cotto face red all around which means his jab was "snapping" out and landing with force.

????, seriously...did you even read OR comprehend my meaning? Apparently not. I was talking about THE fight, NOT Cotto's CAREER!!! As far as "Mary's" career in boxing, and his noted defense....RUNNING around the ring jabbing could also be taken as a sign (as the commentators of many of his fights note) of just doing enough to win. In other words score some points and run....score some points and run. Boooorrrring. As far as the 2 boxers faces...I HAD ALREADY mentioned that!!! Geeeez, LMAO!

I agree with HomertheGreek, he is undefeated and how many belts does he hold? YET you say he is not a good boxer. How do you compliment people who DONT have a flawless record and insult the ONLY boxer who does right now???

I would on to say that yes you guys probably sucked at sports and didnt like the guys who worked hard enough and got far enough to make you look silly. Now you see Floyd as that kid that schooled you EVERYTIME in EVERYTHING, so you pretend he is not that great and that in reality it is not his TALENT that got him a flawless record no, he ??????? Lets scroll up and read the ****.

UNDISPUTED

Look up the meaning of that word.

Roberta Duran would have gotten the same thing from Pretty Boy Floyd that he got from Sugar Ray Leonard an **** whipping and walked away saying " No Mas "

I dont think you even know what you mean. Which one is it: Either Mayweather hit him with stiff jabs or he was playing patty cake.. throwing meaningless punches just enough to score winning rounds?Maybe we didnt watch the same fight, but the fight I saw Mayweather didnt do a lot of running around or movie.. stayed in the corners on purpose and did plenty of exchanging with the 174 lbs Cotto. Also.. you said Cotto was slow and plotting? WTF were you watching? dude was on the balls of his feet trying his best to catch mayweather.. Just so happens that Mayweather Defense, using his arms, gloves, and rolling with several punches was just better. This fight Mayweather threw the most punches he has EVER thrown in a fight in a LONG time.. and as far as those soft punches.. they sure did have Cotto hurting in the 12th round. But let me guess.. Cotto was tired for plotting along all night trying to catch Mayweather???

Must have been the 2+ rounds I saw "Mary" getting his nose bloodied.....hmmmm...LMAO! I guess I missed that....

"a guy like Roberto Duran in his prime....." what part of that sentence don't you get? CLEARLY the level of competition Duran faced in his career is FAR superior to ANYTHING "Mary" has face...LMAO...TROLL!

It's called LEVEL of Competition during ones career. YOU do understand that...LMAO...don't you?

Like Michael Wilbon (ESPN, of PTI fame) states, if the coward ("Mary"weather) keeps ducking "PAQman", why even bother with this guy. He's a running coward who refuses to fight a fighter who isn't afraid of him, and that says it all. Duran would have gone through a brick wall to "KTS" out of him. Duran (to name one guy) was NEVER a "Mary." LEVEL of competion (based on the quality of fighters in a given era) dictates a fighter's legacy.

I agree this guy does not know boxing. He is still learning and he even says it. We all are, but this guy is way behind. Noone has figured out how to beat Mayweather yet, but this guy says Mayweather can't fight. When we talk about fighters I think of Sugar Ray Robinson. They guy was a boxer and a fighter. I have to wonder how Mayweather would stack up against him. Mayweather can fight. If he starts to get down on points, he pull fuel from a reserved source and regains the lead. I watch Robinson's style. I honestly beleive that he is the only person that has ever been made that can hit Mayweather. He has punches from so many angles, from the fights I have been able to see. He throws one kind of punch, like a catcher throws a baseball that comes from over his head. Noone throws a puch like that today, and it might even be illegal, or just awkward because of the glove today. Pacqui is closer to Robinson in style than Mayweather is.....and he has the same level of speed. I personally beleive they are avoiding each other. But more so Mayweather.

One Sugar does not belong in the same arena as the other.....more than entertaining...the first was a true gladiator....the second was an entertainer...."no mass..." I wish Duran didn't do that, but my thought are that he was frustrated by Leonards speed, and he couldn't catch him. I wish he had stalked him and stayed with it. Hagler expressed the same frustration with Leonard. Watch the decision of their fight. It is almost like someone just brushing the glove against your face and not actually hitting you to score the points, and at the same time that allows them to keep their distance. "No Mass" was for "No more ****!" Need proof...watch the decision of Hagler vs Leonard...he is basically expressing his attitude and saying "this Leonard guys is ****, look at me I have no marks on me, and I just lost because someone put on a show!" Watch it!

Mayweather ain't a Mary...learn boxing... I don't like him either....

Good comment.

Mayweather reminds me of Pernell Whitaker in terms of style (elusiveness, blinding speed, incredible defense, not a lot of power).

As for guys historically that could have take out Floyd (welterweights) Sugar Ray Robinson is probably top of the list. Sugar Ray Leonard can't be ignored either.

If we go a little bigger (middleweights), I have little doubt that Hagler could throw a good beating on Floyd. The Hitman as well.

Pacquiao's style is a lot more aggressive than Mayweather's, but that leaves him exposed. Historic greats (welterweight and above) would crush Manny due to size. If little Marquez can take Manny to 3 disputed razor-thin finishes (while Mayweather breezes through Marquez), those other guys would break Manny too quickly.

That is probaly true, and I hate to admit it. I love Duran. But Duran is better than a Cotto and look how well Cotto did. Cotto is close don't get me wrong, but Cotto himself would bow to Duran. That is because they fight the same way. I beleive that the person to beat Mayweather is someone that can throw crazy puches from all kinds of angles, the funny thing is, that is what Pac does. Sugar Ray Robinson is one of the best of all times, and he also could throw a punc from anywhere. His body was always in a position to throw a punch. Cotto was looking like that for some of the fight last week. Pac has that fluidity, I hope they go lighter gloves. Pac also looks awkward at times, like he is doing Kung Fu, and I don't know what to think about that. He has the angles going for him, but he not the style of Robinson. He has the speed. I don't know. May has fought some great fighters, so that argument is null. It is a matter of style. Floyd's style is amazing. Pac does not have this finesse. But Pac beat Cotto, a great figther. Cotto translates to any era, and the other guy Marquez? They would have been good in any era. The only person that truley stands out with a unique style is Sugar Ray Robinson, and Pac only has a few of the things that he had. Marques and Cotto are fundamentally sound, but that edge ins't there. No, you are wrong....Mayweather has had some opposition.
