Coach Smith has announced that Wide Receiver Kane Whitehurst has been released from his scholarship, due to his arrest for possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, which means the Razorbacks could stand to lose three of the nine wide receivers on their depth chart due to misconduct off the field. On the depth chart Arkansas announced on April 30, http://arkansas.rivals.com/cdepthtext.asp Marquel Wade was #1 for one spot, Maudrecus Humphrey was #2 for another and Whitehurst sat directly behind Humphrey. Cobi Hamilton had best keep his nose clean and avoid injury.
As long as Humphrey and Wade have felony charges pending, they will be ineligible to play, but the Wade charge will certainly be reduced to a misdemeanor in the plea-bargaining stage. We saw that happen last year with Jordan Jefferson. Humphrey is the only definite write-off for the season.
Kudos to Coach Smith for dismissing Whitehurst at a time when his receiving corps was getting thinner by the day.
