This is the biggest day of this season for this 42 team, all the usual  excuses, too slow, too tight, too loose and bad luck or all the talking point like "we are making progress" won't make a difference.

Reality is that JPM needs to tighten up his belts and drive the hell out of this car, they are in danger of falling into the abyss of the standings, the twenties.

There are many of good drivers on the brink of going up into the top 20, Aric, AJ, J. Gordon and Martin, if that happens is going to be just about impossible for the #42 team to get a shot at a wild card.

Lets be honest folks, as if stands now JPM might need to win two or three races to get a shot at the chase, I don't know if they got that in them.

I hope they can pull a rabbit out of their hat today.

They need minimum a top 10. PERIOD.

Enough said.

I think a top 10 is out of the question for JPM on a 1.5-miler unless by freak accident for fuel mileage (this would be the "rabbit+hat option"). This team is so far off the mark, they're not even in the same zip code as the contenders. Believe me, I hated to finally admit it to myself. But since I reached the acceptance stage, my Sundays have been much more pleasant. I don't lay the blame on JPM... well, not all of it. It's a rebuilding year, yadda yadda, I get all that (then again, when isn't it?). But, he could stand to try to recapture his fire, or at least pretend to be upset.

That said, the Coke 600 is typically a snoozefest. It falls slightly behind Fontana and Pocono as best "napping" races. They should cut this race in half. Ahhh, yes, if they could all be superspeedways, road courses, or short courses, with the occasional 1.5-miler, then NASCAR could be interesting week-in and week-out. But, that's another rant for another day.

I'll be rooting for the #16 today out of necessity, since he's from my town and all.

I think I got a little harsh on JPM at the boys. In retrospect, I should've lightened up a bit. But you know, JPM has all this talent, and it's just a waste what is happening. It ticks me off.

Anyway, I apologize if I offended anyone, especially JPM.

again I agree..

A top 10 could happen, they were not bad at Texas, Kansas and California...they were REALLY good except for one run at Kansas...when JPM went all KuBu on the crew..but he apologized afterwards and recognized the hard work. If he's on the lead lap at halfway..it could be a promising race.

Juan got JJ horseshoe...he gained a spot but lost 11 points,,sorry but maybe next year...hope I'm wrong...

At this point I would say Juan would probably be better off going back to open wheel racing. He is a world class driver, but I don't think he is cutout for NASCAR. This is his 6th year in Cup, and he has shown little to no improvement, and I would argue some regression. At this point he is not going to get a ride for a top level team. When his contract is up with Ganassi's Cup team it might be time to switch back to open wheel, maybe in a Ganassi Indy Car.

I am not saying Juan in a bad driver, far from it. But if you look at the recent past there have been a lot of big names from IRL who have washed out of NASCAR, three time Indy 500 winner Dario Franchitti being one of them.

This has nothing to do with the driver, JJ would be a top 20 in the Ganassi junk, I'm very surprised that someone with the knowledge of racing you have demonstrated would say that...this guy can drive the car, he is in a low budget team,Chip Ganassi is not all in NASCAR like he is other series..Chip has wasted this guys time, shame on Montoya for letting Chip do it...He need to find sponsor money and get to a good team..........I'm going to write them down here but look up the top 15 and tell me how many teams are involved... that should tell you the story, if a driver is not in that group or a satellite like Stewart one ids out of luck...the rest is nothing but fill ins..pie filling.....so I'll have to strongly disagree with you, Montoya in a Hendrick car be in the chase every year and win a championship...Ive been a fan of this guy for a long time I know of no car where here has not consistently won..oh wait yea NASCAR and even though he had been driving junk he still got 2 wins.....I can also make a list of the so called stock car drivers who have not won one cup race...agree..

Again, of all the so call OPEN WHEEL INVASION not one of them was in a respectable team ...not one had a respectable race car..Montoya won in Sonoma in 2007 on talent and gasoline ..lol......that dodge was junk....Dario was in ever worse junk..Ganassi Nationwide...defunked..lol..come on don't drink the media Kool-Aid..those guys never had a chance.....you noticed Nelson Piquet Jr. is in the running for a championship, you know why, cause he brought lots of money to be in top equipment and when he moves up into cup he will take that money......if you want to go fast you got to be where the money is my friend...lol

Sam Hornish Jr, was in Penske equipment (still a Dodge though), and he went no where. He is slowly rebuilding his career in Nationwide, but that's more a big fish in a small pond thing. You are right that money is needed for speed, but with internationally know names like Montoya, and Franchitti you'd think they would have the money to burn.

At this point I doubt Montoya could get a ride with a top team. He would have to bring a sponsor with him, and with the finishes the past few years I doubt there is anyone willing to put the money up to sponsor him. Very few of today's sponsors are fans of the sport enough to look at EGI and say "Hey that's not good equipment, let's give Montoya money to move to a better ride." Potential sponsors will see his mediocre performance and either not sponsor him, or worse sponsor a different driver.

There have been many potentially successful careers ended by drivers going with the wrong team. And I really do hate to say this because I know he is a world class driver, but Montoya is increasingly becoming one of those drivers.

As far as Nelson Piquet Jr goes all I will say is this. He is currently driving in the Truck series, but he's not exactly setting the world on fire there. You say he is contending for a championship, and while yes he is 8th in points that would be like saying Danica is a contender for the NW championship because she is 9th in points.

He looks to be building his career and work his way through the series, which I applaud him for. I think he will have better success going up the ladder slowly than to just be dropped in a Cup ride. Although I fail to see how Turner Motorsports is considered a "top team" outside of the Truck series.
