The U.S. Givernment needs to calm down. First it was MLB baseball, now NFL football. Reports say that Senator Arlen Specter has contacted NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to discuss the Patriots "Spygate" fiasco at the beginning of the 2007 NFL season. The NFL reportedly destroyed all evidence after fining the Patriots & Bill Belichek and taking away a 1st-round draft pick last fall.
The timing of this news is terrible as the Patriots seek to become the first team to ever go 19-0 in a season. But what gets me is the fact that, yet again, our government is spending taxpayer money to investigate sports. I feel that MLB and the NFL are strong enough to police themselves. I pay enough in taxes that careless "public servants" waste consistently and I do not feel that the American people are best-served spending the time of our Congressmen and Senators on sports issues. Take that money to lower taxes, research cancer, feed the hungry, house the homeless or something that actually helps the American people. Quit wasting my time and money with investigating the sports world.

This not something the U. S. Congress needs to be involved in. Leave it for the NFL to investigate. Oh wait...they already did.

But this gives the "fans" in the Senate an opportunity to buthcer football history like they did with the Mitchell Report. I can't wait to hear a senator saying, "James Brown was a great running back for the Cleveland Indians. He did it without spying." "Vince Lambeau was a great coach. The AFL championship award is named after him. He won back to back Rose Bowl's when he coached the Wisconsin Badgers. He didn't spy."
