Now, you may be wondering why I am writing this on a Friday, right? Well, I won;t be able to get on FanNation tommorow, so you get the joy of reading my Super Bowl blog a day early!
So here it is: Super Bowl XLII, Patriots-Giants. One team, the Patriots, is undefeated, dominant, and may be the best team in the history of football. The other team, the GEE-MEN! are mighty underdogs, a certain type of Cinderella, with a whole nother mess of story lines following them. Its bound to be great. Here I am, FaustoCarmonaFan, FanNation's official/unofficial NFL analyst, to answer the big questions about the Super Bowl, and I'll even throw a prediction in there. Here it is.
Will Tom Brady be held back by the Ankle? Notice how I capitilized ankle, well, because it is so important to the health of America that it'ss a proper noun now. But seriously, how can Brady look perfectly fine in a game on Sunday and then be on the brink of foot amputation the next day? You people seem to be doubting Belicheck-he is the master of injury deception. I bet this whole thing was Bill's idea to throw a wrench in Jersey/A's plans. Brady practiced when it mattered, so there is really no question about his preperation. In a word: no.
What team benefits most from the dome weather? I said it once, and I'll say it again: if New England would have gotten ANY snow in one of their playoff games, they would have lost. Face it: they can't run the ball! Laurence Maroney is inconsistent! If they needed to, the Flying Elvii would not have been able to run, and they would have lost! But no, Mother Nature went out partying and forgot New England weather in January. This team is a passing team, and they thrive on good weather. The Giants are a running team, and want bad weather. I doubt they'll get it in U-Phoenix Stadium. Patriots.
Is Eli Manning going to play good? Well, since he had that awesome game he had in Foxboro, little Manning has been the perfect QB for the system. He is being efficient and not throwing INTs. With 2 weeks to prepare, I expect more of the same. He will play like he did in the previous games.
What does New England need to do to win this game? Well, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. The Patriots haven't lost yet, so they really shouldn't be trying to make any big changes. When Brady plays well, they don't even need Maroney. The defense has been excellent, and they need to just hold up. Really, what the Patriots need is to not somehow become bad and start out strong. When they struggle, they get off to bad starts. They can't afford it.
Why does the "Super Bowl XLII" logo look like a mini-van door? Seriously, what's this thing supposed to be? It really has no theme, its just ugly and pointless. Who designs this?
What does Jersey/A have to do to win the game? Last time these two played, the Giants put up one awesome fight before they decided to stop trying. They had ggod passing and great running. Plus, they have great intangibles. To win, they'll need to do what no other team ever wants to do: blitz Brady! Come on! Pressuring Brady will put a hinder on the passing game, and maybe, you'll force them to run the ball! This is seriously the biggest key to the game. It really doesn't matter how the rest of the game goes: these battles on the line will decide the game. Do that, and you'll have a chance.
So, hows the game gonna go? Here it is, my walkthrough of the Super Bowl: Giants score first, getting a quick TD. Later in the quarter, the Giants kick a FG and take a 10 point lead. With a little panic setting in, the Pats blow down the field and score a TD. They drive again, but the G-Men blitz Brady and hold up the drive for a FG. The Giants get a FG, and at the half, its 13-13. At this point, there are a record 35 monkeys featured in comercials.
But back to the game. The Giants run the ball down the Pats throats, and Eli throws a TD pass. The Giants score again, and the Pats are down 14 late in the 3rd. The Pats score a FG, and then a TD to bring it to 27-23. The Giants score a TD run with Bradshaw, and the announcers start to talk about the greatest upset since III. With 7 minutes left, Brady thoughs a perfect TD pass to Vrabel to pull within 34-30. The Giants are unable to stall enough, and the Pats get it back with 4 minutes left. Laurence Maroney breaks a 40 yard run to set it up, and then Brady thows a pass to the 2, when Faulk pounds it in with 1:40 left for a 37-34 lead. The Giants put up a solid drive, but with 17 seconds left on their own 45 in 4 and 8, Eli gets his pass intercepted by Randall Gay. The Pats run out the clock and win 37-34, finishing off the perfect season.
So I almost picked Jersey/A, but I can't go against this team. Another awesome game, and the New England Patriots are Super Bowl champions.

You must have one awesome crystal ball to make predictions on the SB. It's entirely plausible. But I think you might be giving the Giants credit where few else would.

Horrible!!! These predictions make me sick and I'm not sure I want to watch the game now. I sure hope your crystal ball is broken!
