Some tidbits from the first day of camp.

Not practicing:  Aaron Curry and Shane Lechler (knee), Ron Bartell (hammy) and Travis Ivey (conditioning).

Terrelle Pryor continues to struggle. At this point, there is really no competition with he and Leinart for the primary backup spot. Pryor fumbled his first snap, his passes are still a bit wobbly and lack velocity, and his one medium distance pass to a moving target he threw well behind his receiver. Just before practice was to end, Pryor rolled to his left and tried to flip the ball right into the arms of Christo Bilukidi who intercepted it and scored. After practice Allen was asked what he expected of Pryor and his response was for Pryor to "develop as a quarterback on a regular basis."

Jacoby Ford went down in a heap, holding his left knee. And after some tense moments laying on the field unable to walk more than two steps, he hopped up and trotted out to field punts. As scary as it was, it was equally surprising to see him no worse for wear so quickly afterward. He says he's fine.

Marcel Reece looks great in the passing game. He was routinely outrunning his coverage to his spot and wide open. When he wasn't wide open, he made nice grabs in traffic. One particular pass he caught from Palmer, he leapt up and plucked it out of the air then stopped right at the sideline and cutback while his coverage kept going and Reece sprinted up field for a big gain. He's a mismatch in practice too.

From Steve Corkran http://tinyurl.com/cnxpqsv:

- As promised, most of the players that missed some time during the offseason workouts were on the practice field Monday.

Among those were: center Stefen Wisniewski, safety Mike Mitchell, defensive end Matt Shaughnessy and wide receiver Denarius Moore.

In Wisniewski's case, he returned after missing all the offseason workouts because of a shoulder surgery.

"I was standing around doing nothing for a while and I didn't like that," Wisniewski said. "It's been seven months since I've played football, and it feels great to be back."

Wisniewski's return gave Allen his first look at the projected starting offensive line, with Jared Veldheer at left tackle, Cooper Carlisle at left guard, Wisniewski in the middle, Mike Brisiel at right guard and Khalif Barnes at right tackle.

Second-year player Joseph Barksdale spent his time at left tackle and rookie Tony Bergstrom at left guard with the second-team.

- Those concerned about running back Darren McFadden can rest easy. He looks every bit as sharp now as he did during the offseason workouts.

McFadden copped to being a little sore afterward. However, he said he is looking forward to the process.

"It does feel good out there, being back out there on the field, being out there with the guys running around," McFadden said. "I feel like we did a lot of good things out there today. Some things we still got to improve on. It's like, coming out there on the first day, it's nothing you can do to prepare for it all summer. You get out there the first day, you get a little winded. Guys are going to come along it's time to go."

Allen liked what he saw from McFadden.

"Fast; he looked good," Allen said. "We all understand that he's an explosive playmaker for us and we need him to be healthy for the entire season."

From Jerry McDonald http://tinyurl.com/cnbam6t:

Five players who had had good days on the Raiders' first practice of training camp:

Wide receiver Rod Streater, an undrafted free agent, continued his solid work from organized team activities and minicamps.

Cornerback DeMarcus Van Dyke broke up two passes as the starting left cornerback in place of Ron Bartell, who did not practice.

Strong safety Mike Mitchell, out for the entire offseason, broke up a pass intended for Richard Gordon and also took the place Rock Cartwright as the personal protector on Raiders' punts.

Fullback Marcel Reece caught several passes out of the backfield. If the first practice is any indication, the new offense suits him.

Cornerback Pat Lee broke up a pass that was interception on a deflection by Chimdi Chekwa.

Apparently, music was played during camp for the first time since the Kiffin days.  There were a lot more reps taken on offense and defense than in years past. And the defensive packages are multiple schemes that the players are loving.

Sounds like things are going to be very interesting this year!  Fired up for the start of the season.
