When the Olympic Games are over, I will be pleased with the effort that the Canadian athletes have done, including, what happened yesterday. For the first time since the 1976 Olympics, a Canadian high jumper reached the podium.
Derek Droin won bronze in the high jump event in what was a three way tie. The last Canadian high jumper to win a medal in this event was Greg Joy, who won silver in Montreal 36 years ago. Way to go Derek.
Now to some baseball.
My Blue Jays lost to the Tampa Bay Rays last night 4-1. I got some more unsettling news for Jays fans. Starting pitcher, Drew Hutchison will undergo Tommy John surgery tomorrow and bluejays.com is reporting he will not be at full strength until 2014. Look for the Jays to sign a pitcher from the free agent market in the off-season.
I also watched the Arizona/Pittsburgh game last night. Diamondbacks won 10-4.
A couple of baseball notes for you.
Baltimore's Ryan Flaherty was placed on the 15-day disabled list today due to a bacterial infection.
The injury woes continue to hamper the Red Sox. They have called up Clayton Mortensen from Triple A and placed Vicente Padilla on the 15-day D.L. with right arm soreness.
