It was another good day for Canada as three athletes in three different sports reached the podium yesterday.
Adam Van Koeverden won silver in the men's K1-100m, Mark Overshaw won bronze in the men's C1-1000m, and Carol Huyynh won bronze in women's wrestling. This is Huynh's second Olympic medal in just her second Olympic games. She won gold in this event four years ago in Beijing, China.
A couple of hockey notes to pass along.
Philadelphia has re-signed Marc-Andre Bourdon to a multi-year contract extension. The team also signed Scott Laughton to a entry-level contract.
Carolina has signed star forward Jeff Skinner to a six-year, $34.35 million contract.
My Blue Jays came close, but not close enough as they were defeated by the Tampa Bay Rays last night 3-2. Some more bad news for the Jays. Third baseman, Brett Lawrie was placed on the 15-day disabled list today with a strained right oblique.
Cleveland has placed Travis Hafner on the 15-day D.L. with a lower back inflammation. The Indians have also dismissed their pitching coach, Scott Radinky and promoted Ruben Niebla from Triple A.
Finally, Carl Petterson leads the PGA Championship by one stroke (-6) after one round.
