The Stack is here on this Wednesday and the plan is to do this every Tuesday or Wednesday, most likely on Tuesdays during the NFL season. Everyone who covers the NFL it seems for ESPN, NFL.com, etc. breaks out their power rankings so The Stack is going to today as well. So let's get right to it and take a look at the NFL power rankings after week 1 of the regular season in "the stack" for today, Wednesday, September 12:
NFL Power Rankings (Week 1)
1. San Francisco 49ers
With the way they beat Green Bay, the 49ers showed they are the class of the NFC.
2. New England Patriots
Still need to see if the defense can keep this up, but if they can, Patriots can win the AFC.
3. Baltimore Ravens
Joe Flacco showed Monday night that he's very good and the Ravens offense is too.
4. Houston Texans
Beat a bad team (Dolphins) like they should. DE J.J. Watt is an incredible talent.
5. Atlanta Falcons
Matt Ryan was sensational against KC. The Falcons will put the pedal to the metal all year.
6. Green Bay Packers
Aaron Rodgers & co. on offense will be fine. It's the defense that will hold the team back.
7. Chicago Bears
Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall seem to have good chemistry already. Bears offense is something to be feared. Never thought I'd say that.
8. Denver Broncos
Peyton Manning was awfully impessive in his return to the field. But can he play that well all season and hold up for 16 games?
9. Dallas Cowboys
Stunning the way their defense looked Wednesday night. Total transformation. Tony Romo also impressed.
10. New York Giants
Giants were embarrassed with their play last week. They'll have a better performance this week. The secondary and wide receiver depth is a concern.
11. Philadelphia Eagles
Eagles got a win, but if Michael Vick throws four INT's a game, they won't win many more.
12. Pittsburgh Steelers
Offensive line is still a concern. And the defense is getting older. Steelers though will still compete for the AFC North.
13. New York Jets
A complete 180 from the preseason against the Bills. Great defense and if Mark Sanchez plays this good all year, the Jets will shatter expectations.
14. Detroit Lions
Matthew Stafford threw three INT's against the Rams...at home! They barely won. Perhaps too many expectations placed on the Lions?
15. New Orleans Saints
Thought they were a lock last week what with everything they had gone through this offseason. Bad performance by the Saints particularly on defense. Could be a long season in the Bayou.
16. San Diego Chargers
They beat the Raiders (because of a long-snapper injury), but the Chargers have to figure out a way to find the endzone more than once if they want to win the division.
17. Washington Redskins
Dazzling show put on by RGIII in his first game. He looks to go 2-0 with a trip to St. Louis this weekend.
18. Cincinnati Bengals
When it rains it pours and that's what happened to the Bengals Monday night. They've got to find a way to beat the good teams. Secondary looked really bad.
19. Carolina Panthers
Cam Newton didn't look like Cam Newton against the Bucs. And 10 rushing yards?! They've got to figure that out if they want to make the postseason.
20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
It's just one game, but head coach Greg Schiano made a huge impact on defense already.
21. Kansas City Chiefs
Decent on offense. Bad on defense, giving up 40 points. They need to figure it out and quick.
22. Buffalo Bills
Bad day for the Bills. Defense looked horrible and they lost David Nelson and Fred Jackson to injury. Lots of expectations. Can they turn it around?
23. Tennessee Titans
4 rushing yards for Chris Johnson? With a young Jake Locker at QB, the Titans need more rushing yards than that to be successful this season.
24. Arizona Cardinals
Kevin Kolb has a chance to silence the boos if he plays well and resurrect his career.
25. Minnesota Vikings
Perhaps the most impressive performance of the weekend was Adrian Peterson and his 17 rushes for 84 yards and 2 TD's not even 9 months after a torn ACL. Amazing!
26. Seattle Seahawks
All that hype about how good Russell Wilson is and starting him week 1 didn't exaclty pay off.
27. Oakland Raiders
Long snapper injury cost them the game Monday night against San Diego. Coupled that with a short week, cross country flight and mounting injuries and the Raiders are staring 0-2 in the face.
28. St. Louis Rams
Rams were game at Detroit nearly pulling out a huge upset. Defense has come a long ways, but the offense needs work.
29. Jacksonville Jaguars
The difference between Blaine Gabbert Sunday was night and day compared to last year. Giving up that lead though late in the game at Minnesota could haunt this team.
30. Indianapolis Colts
Andrew Luck made mistakes you expect a rookie to make. But he made some good throws and made the Bears work a while.
31. Cleveland Browns
Hey at least their defense scored a touchdown.
32. Miami Dolphins
Hard Knocks paid off...for Texans DE J.J. Watt. Long year in South Beach looms.
