There are two portions to this article on the replacement refs....

The first portion comes from references from an article I wrote over 5-years ago about the referees becoming professionals, in the sense they become full-time employees of the NFL.  To reiterate, I don't believe the NFL should've been hiring "part-time" accountants, lawyers, and bankers as referees; but rather should have been using year-round, full-time referees even if they are only actually officiating during the NFL season.  In essence, officiating should be their career profession.

Today, I believe the aforementioned thought and idea would have prevented the problems that are occurring today.

The second portion of this blog; will now shed light on the real and even spiritual problem of the NFL's use of replacement refs; that I have not heard anyone in the media note:

The use of replacements to govern the rules of the game, is like a nation with a substitute, transitional, or replacement government. In fact, a country or in this case a game; is like a national government or a police force; and in most scenarios, a nation is only as strong or productive as it's government.  And now, the NFL game is being policed or governed by inexperienced, untrained, and second-class officials.

"Now, what is and will continue to happen while this is the situation?"

It will definitely lead to chaos and anarchy.  And each week, we are seeing games whereby the citizens (players) are becoming frustrated and restless.  The inmates are beginning to riot.  The society of NFL players are having essentially the duty and pressure of governing themselves.  And when the frustration and pressure of injustice and victimization combine, without the borders of civilized rules or restraints, or a justiice system, and a proper and professional policing of the people; the nation itself will boil over and explode.

"What will be the final result?"

If you've ever been in a pick-up hoop game; what usually transpires without professional, competent, officiating is loud arguing, many halts in play, improper final scores and yes, injury; however what ultimately happens is even worse.  In truth, in any competition or war within a country with inept or no government officiating there is one result: revolution, revolt and riot.

While many in the media foresee the residual effect of the officiating being the altering of a game's outcome by a blown or bad call; or a serious  injury; I vow it will be much worse.

Surely yes, these will likely happen; but this will lead to the most-profound effect of this officiating situation: a major, no-holds-barred, player on-field and then even off-field brawl or riot the likes of which the NFL has ever seen.  It will be violent and brutal and tragically, maybe even life-threatening.

I love the NFL Nation, but it is competitive and violent; the lifeblood for most who work, play and live in it; and tragically, it is getting ready to implode.  It's only a matter of time, I fear to say.

The fact of the matter is the nfl is in violatation of contract law between themselves and all the season ticket holders and actually their television contracts also. They are an entertainment venue based on the pretense of a fair sports contest. That is the measure of the contest between the physical abilities and strategies of one assembled set of atheletes and their organization and based on a set of rules enforced by a a group of officials which provide for a fair contest based on the enforcement of those rules. These rules are not being enforced and consequently the outcome of these contests are being influenced not but the quality of play on the feild but by the missed infractions, the false calls, and/or the delays in the flow of these contests which effect the fans and the players abilities to concentrate and enjoy the games. On the same basis the players, there organizations, and the fans which expect that the contest to be held this coming sunday is going to be similar to those they have been experiencing for the past 100 years of football. When in fact that is not what the NFL is providing at this point and time. Part of the pretense of the contract between the NFL and the people who pay them for this entertainment is that they provide the consistent and same officiating based on the past practice as established by professionalism and effectiveness of the original referees. That same quality is clearly not being offered and consequently the fans are not being provided the same quality entertainment as what they have ageeably contracted the nfl to provide. The NFL is therefore found to be in default of their contract to each and every ticket purchaser and / or the broadcasters and their constituents. A refund is due everyone. - T.L. Long
