According to the St. Louis Post Dispatch, Brett Thompson, a 6-foot-11 center considered one of the top basketball players in Illinois from the class of 2008, made a verbal commitment to St. Louis University on Tuesday. This is fantastic news. Here's a big man who can be an impact player as soon as he hits the floor. And his arrival wil coincide with the senior years of Liddell and Lisch, which should make 2008 a breakout year for the Billikens. Majerus is already starting to attract the notable players in the midwest. I know Thompson indicated that he was already leaning towards SLU prior to Majerus' hiring, but kudos to Rick for sealing the deal after the poor handling of Soderberg by SLU.
I have only one major concern about Thompson: He stated that he was also looking at Indiana, Purdue, Alabama and Notre Dame prior to committing to SLU. Uh-oh. He can't sign a letter until November, so that gives these four schools 6 months to steal him away. So, I have one request: Kelvin, please leave this kid alone. Please. I know you love to send text messages to other school's committed players (Eric Gordon), but throw us a freakin bone here, ok? We're not in the Big Ten, we're not your competition, we're just a lowly Jesuit University trying to claw it's way into basketball respectability. The Hoosiers are my 2nd favorite team, and I'd love to see them succeed too, but please, give your dialing fingers a rest, Kelvin, and let us keep just this one, OK?

..just for the record..ithout signing on the dotted line..he is fair game..and we need size in the big10/11..sounds like a great fit in a Hoosier uni..just for the record..and besides the kid may want to get an NCAA ring efore leaving school..and lets face it..it won't happen in St. Louis..at least not in this lifetime..coach rick or not..

You obviously dont know the FACTS about the EJ recruitment and I dont have time to share them with you. I will state though, EGsr. contacted IU first and that is a FACT............
As for Brett, he is a good pickup for SLU, IU is getting ready to land Devin Ebanks the no.10 ranked player in the country. KS and IU are also in BIG with M Dunigan and Crittle out of Chicago, Dunigan being the STAR and BIG TIME player but both have a HUGE upside. So dont worry about Brett, SLU and he will be just fine...........
I love the Majerus hire by the way, if he stays healthy all should be well in the future for the Billys..............
PS: Check out this website, mustseegames.com, I think there you can find some videos of Bretts AAU team. They have entire games there, pretty neat stuff.......................

I am sick and tired of people trashing Sampson, Gordon, or the state of Indiana. The kid is from Indiana, wanted to go there, but didn't want to play for Davis. It's as simple as that.
Rick Majerus is one of my favorite NCAA coaches, and I hope this recruit does well for him in St. Louis.

BIGLARS' I think SLU has a chance at another BIG MAN for 08, John Brandenburgh (sp). I think he is from SL and with Majerus there I think that will help a little for sure.
PS: I do wish SLU luck in the future, remember before Rick M. left for the Utes he coached a HOME school in BSU just north of Indianapolis........
Please respond to the threads so we can talk some recruiting, sharing is the way to learn...........
