It's Friday and that means The Stack has to make picks for week 5 in the NFL. Last week was a much better week, going 11-4. That means through four weeks, we're 37-26. Let's keep improving. Off to a good start this week after the St. Louis Rams 17-3 win over the Arizona Cardinals. Boy the Rams defense was ferocious. They sacked Kevin Kolb nine times. The Cardinals are no longer unbeaten and look like they have some big problems on the offensive line. This game was not the most pleasant to watch though. And the Rams have lost wide receiver Danny Amendola for quite some time with a broke collarbone. Some very intriguing games on the schedule this week. We will talk plenty about the Red Sox firing Bobby Valentine next week as well as the NHL canceling the first two weeks of the regular season, but for now let's make some predictions and preview some games in "the stack" for today, Friday, October 5:
Miami Dolphins @ Cincinnati Bengals 1:00 PM ET CBS
The Dolphins looked good last week against the Cardinals. Ryan Tannehill threw for over 400 yards. But the Bengals return home for only the second time this season. They'll be ready. Fun side bet, who will have more yards: Brian Hartline or A.J. Green. I might say Hartline in a losing effort.
Prediction: Bengals 24 Dolphins 17
Green Bay Packers @ Indianapolis Colts 1:00 PM ET FOX
The Colts will be playing a little pre-occupied with head coach Chuck Pagano in their hearts as he recovers from leukemia. I expect the Colts to come out and play some really inspired football and give the Packers a run for their money. In fact, it would not surprise me if they win this game. But the Packers are more talented and will win a game closer than the experts think.
Prediction: Packers 27 Colts 24
Baltimore Ravens @ Kansas City Chiefs 1:00 PM ET CBS
The heat that Scott Pioli is taking in KC will only get hotter after this game. Joe Flacco is going to have another big game as the Ravens roll.
Prediction: Ravens 31 Chiefs 17
Cleveland Browns @ New York Giants 1:00 PM ET CBS
The Giants have some definite health concerns at wide receiver. Hakeem Nicks won't play and Ramses Barden might not either. But when you have Eli Manning as your QB, you're not worried. Still the Giants shouldn't overlook a Browns team looking for their first win of the season.
Prediction: Giants 27 Browns 17
Philadelphia Eagles @ Pittsburgh Steelers 1:00 PM ET FOX
The Keystone State battle. The Eagles have won three games this year by four total points. The Steelers have had two weeks to prepare for Michael Vick and they get James Harrison and Troy Polamalu back. Unless LeSean McCoy goes off, the Eagles are in trouble.
Prediction: Steelers 27 Eagles 17
Atlanta Falcons @ Washington Redskins 1:00 PM ET FOX
Two very good quarterback will be on the field in this one. Atlanta's Matt Ryan against Washington's RGIII. At some point Atlanta is going to lose and it very well could be this one, but I think they will be able to slow down RGIII and limit his explosive plays. This will be fairly close.
Prediction: Falcons 27 Redskins 20
Seattle Seahawks @ Carolina Panthers 4:05 PM ET FOX
You knew karma was going to come back and get the Seahawks as it did last week. The Panthers are a desperate team this week. Cam Newton is going to have to have a good game against the Seahawks defense. I think he can.
Prediction: Panthers 24 Seahawks 17
Chicago Bears @ Jacksonville Jaguars 4:05 PM ET FOX
Don't look for the Bears to slow down against the Jags after a short week though there will be a few moments where Bears fans will yell at Jay Cutler for a dumb play.
Prediction: Bears 30 Jaguars 13
Minnesota Vikings @ Tennessee Titans 4:25 PM ET CBS
If Jake Locker were starting at QB, the Vikings would win this pretty easily. But Matt Hasselbeck gets the start and he'll keep the Titans in this for a while especially with Jared Allen battling a groin injury. Still the Vikings surprise 3-1 start to the season will continue to improve thanks to an offense that will have a few explosive plays against this Titans defense that has given up at least 34 points in every game this year.
Prediction: Vikings 30 Titans 20
Denver Broncos @ New England Patriots 4:25 PM ET CBS
Peyton Manning versus Tom Brady. That's pretty much all you need to know. Game of the week hands down. Should be a very exciting game. Tom Brady's team will make more plays though.
Prediction: Patriots 27 Broncos 20
Buffalo Bills @ San Francisco 49ers 4:25 PM ET CBS
The Bills defense will have better success this week against the 49ers than they did last week against the Patriots, but their offense is in for a long day with that vaunted 49ers defense lining up in front of them.
Prediction: 49ers 23 Bills 13
San Diego Chargers @ New Orleans Saints 8:20 PM ET NBC
Drew Brees is looking to make history Sunday night with the most consecutive games with a touchdown and he will do it. Sean Payton, Joe Vitt and Mickey Loomis will all be in attendance and the Chargers just won't be able to stop the electric atmosphere in the building from leading the Saints to victory.
Prediction: Saints 34 Chargers 20
Coming up Monday: Sunday NFL Week 5 reaction
