Ok.  The mainstream media is finally getting us some better information.

The previous facts I stated are true with a caveat.  It now appears that Charles Grant was only being questioned about the incident at the police station.  I am not sure if he was arrested and held for questioning and then released after being discharged from the hospital, but it seems plausible.  (After all, one can be arrested without being charged...just not held for over 24 hours).

I hesitate to speculate on circumstances that no one has yet been charged.  If I had to wager a guess, I would guess that there is some involvement with Grant (as apparent by his being stabbed) but the actual details of the incident are still being worked out.  Blakely is a very small rural town, and considering the amount of attention a case like this would receive (see Ray Lewis, Michael Vick, et al.) they would probably be very cautious to make sure they had as much information as possible before bringing any charges to make sure the charges and the individuals charged are as accurate and appropriate as possible.

Here is an AP Story on the incident

Here is a local TV news story about it.

Here is a video link.

I will be trying to get some more information tomorrow from individuals or family members of those involved with the incident.  If I get any information I will post it tomorrow.  Be sure to check back and I will try to keep you as informed as possible.

On a different note, congratulations to the New York Giants and the New England Patriots on a terrific Superbowl.

Better Question: Why would someone who lives in LA and plays for the Saints be in this area during Mardi Gras? Or why would an NFL player be in this area at a hole-in-the-wall nightclub during the Superbowl? The only answer I can come up with is that he is very close to his friends and family and they all live here. He seemed like a decent enough fellow when I knew him, but I didn't know him that well. However, more information will come out. I know this area. Everyone knows everyone. It's like Mayberry. There are plenty of witnesses who know who did the shooting and stabbing even if Charles didn't know. That's why I feel the lack of arrests is mainly due to caution.
